Yeah, the one I have also has a humbucker in the neck position, so it's not the typical set up. Although, I think in retrospect that I'd like it to have either been in the bridge section, or have a P-90 pickup instead. It's kind of dark and murky sounding when selected by itself, and I'd prefer a slightly brighter tone. Then again, I've ran it through a bass amp, so that could be a contributing factor with that. I don't have a guitar amp downstairs where I usually play. I do have one, a 1982 all tube Fender Super Champ, but I have it stored in the room upstairs, and usually use it when I have to actually seriously play guitar for gig purposes. Come to think of it, I don't think I've even turned that amp on since 2015, probably.

It may not be a bad idea to power that dude up.

That's true. I just haven't had the need to use it in a long time. I rarely play the guitar, just stick with the bass.

Hey Glenn and Paul, yesterday I saw Thundercat playing this beautiful Ibanez. I've never seen a bass guitar like it before. Have either of you played one? What do you think about a six string semi-hollow?

I keep switching between my '95 Strat and my new Player Series Strat.

I've seen that bass before, since I'm a big Ibanez fan, and follow them on social media, and all of that, and have watched a demo video of it. It looks and sounds very cool. I'm not sure how well I'd be able to play the thing, since I've maybe touched a 6-string bass twice in the 30 plus years I've been playing, and that was very briefly in a music store, but I guess it's like everything else, if you practice enough, you might get it.

That's cool that there are expanding options for hollow or semi-hollow body basses like that. I remember I couldn't even find one, other than a few pieces from the 60's, that I could never afford, when I started playing, and not even until really the last decade or so, and mostly because of the internet, that they were available.

I wonder what the tuning is. My guess is: E,A,D,G,B,e like a 6 string guitar, only an octave lower. Do you know if that's how it's tuned?

That's a nice looking bass. A bit much of a stretch I guess for me, but who knows.

It's B,E,A,D,G,C most likely, since the neck is so wide on it. You got that low B, which is a fifth below a low E on a 4-string bass, and the high C, a fifth higher than the G.

You're probably thinking about those Fender Bass VI's from the 60's, which by the way I'd be more likely to want to get, or more likely the Squier or Ibanez version, since the Fender ones are pretty expensive, if you can find one. Actually, my girlfriend did have a Schecter version of a Bass VI, but she sold it. It's kind of a strange instrument, since it's kind of like a guitar, yet not, and kind of like a bass, and yet not.

Thanks, Paul. For some reason, that Ibanez 6 string bass is intriguing to me. Or, maybe the Squier version, as you said. Time to do some research. 8)

Well, I went back to playing the Ibanez CT series bass, which is actually my girlfriend's, last night, since my Ibanez Talman short scale bass was being a twat when I was trying to record. It has some serious fret buzz issue, which I don't know what to do about, since the action on it is really low, and I already raised it as high as I could on the bridge. That took some adjustment, since I the CT is both a long scale, and has rounds on it, which both I'm not used to playing on for at least 2 years, but after warming up, I managed to do alright with it. It sounds pretty good, too.

Well done, Paul. I'm glad it sounds good. 8)

My main axe is a Fender Steve Bailey Jazz Bass VI (B,E,A,D,G,C). Quite likely the last one made. I've been thinking about getting the Warwick version as a take out/backup since I'm kinda nervous about leaving the house with a collectors item and I love the neck feel on it.

Warwicks have really nice necks on them, from what I remember playing on one years ago. I never attempted the 6-string version, though.

I'm going to a Fender Player Jazz in a couple of days.
