That's always a cool option, especially since I've been recently a fan of short scale basses. 8)

Other than the decent sounds it puts out, I really do prefer the feel of the Mustang PJ over the Gibson SG Std.

Either one would be cool with me, although I've never had the chance to play on any sort of Mustang bass, but I did with a '68 Gibson EB-0 and the Epiphone copy, many moons ago.

The 1968 EB-0 had the same basic feel of the 1969-1970 EB-0 I had. The Mustang PJ is basically a short scale Jazz.

You know, they actually did put out a short scale Jazz a few years back, or at least I think they did, unless I was hallucinating. :P I don't think it was around for too long. That would have been an interesting thing to try out, I think.

The EJ Stratocaster is the guitar I play and practice on all the time. The Gilmour Strat is the one I use when I play out. The tone is always excellent.

I took a brief sojourn to my Gibson SG Standard HP because I was yearning for that 57 classic humbucker tone. Man, it is something to hear, and killer for rock, but I play blues most of the time so I'm back to my favorite Strat. 8)

I think there was a short scale Precision as well, some time ago.

You can’t go wrong with either, Marky.

Rum is known as the one bottle bar because so many cocktail drinks made with the other choices can be replaced with rum. Examples would be slings, sours, old fashions, Bloody Marys, and so on. Strats are versatile like that. Maybe, not to everyone’s taste, but plenty of flavours to choose from. Nothing wrong with sticking with one favourite. That, in fact, can be very good indeed; but, sometimes that’s just not enough. YMMV.

Of course, having that one special treat and others for an option is without question, very nice. IMHO.

Yeah, I think you're right about that one. Maybe called a "Junior," or something like that. Probably could find it in an internet search.

Of course, you could get really radical and have a Strat with humbuckers on it. Have you noticed that there's probably never been an SG or Les Paul with Strat pickups on it, though. Too weird for folks, I guess. :P

That’s an interesting observation, Paul. Prolly why they never AFAIK made the Surf circuit. :P

The Strat Partsocaster I built a couple of years ago.
I routinely try my other guitars for a while but after a few days I go back.
Last week it was the Ric.
I absolutely love the look of it and it definitely has a distinctive sound and feel but .... it isn't my number one.
Unfortunately for my previous number one (also a Strat) it just never gets played anymore and I'm quite seriously considering selling it.
It doesn't do anything that my Partsocaster doesn't do better plus the Partsocaster can do things the old number one can't.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I went with the USA GL Jazz today through the SB / HD115 setup. It really out performed the Special Edition Deluxe PJ, and the Mustang PJ. Image
