Thanks Paul, it was built in 2007 and bought by me from the shop in 2010, it is an amazing guitar possibly the best I own though I have an MIA Tele, this one just feels right when you pick it up, and when you plug it in and start to play you get the magic. :D

Thanks, Steve. Loved the picture. Just goes to show everyone likes Telecasters. Even cute little doggies.

After getting acquainted with the new Ibanez acoustic bass, I've also been playing around with the Ibanez Talman short scale bass. Sort of an Ibanez thing going on, I guess. :P

Sounds good, Paul. Any luck with a case for your new acoustic?

I'm still lovin' my new Strat and playing it daily. :)

I haven't looked for any sort of case, recently. I guess I'll worry about it more so when I have to use it for any sort of gigs, if needed.

Don't forget to check out the one I sent you. It looked really nice for $24.99. :)

Paul, with the Ibanez acoustic bass, are you liking the strings? I wasn’t sure if I would take to my stock Elixirs at first, and they do cost a little more. Some claim a problem with the coating, but I’ve had them before a new set replaced them, and no problems here. I have to say they are easy on fingers and there is definitely less fingertip noise which is nice, especially for recording. The tone is fine and other string tone may be preferable; however, that is subjective when comparing good strings, and changing them may bring the downside back to the equation.

My belief is that the build of the guitar also takes the tone of the stock strings into account. I’m certain that Stradivarius did this, and it would be a logical way to go. This may be true for premium instruments, and yet it would be difficult to confirm that this choice and method could possibly benefit a whole lineup of instruments within a manufacturer. Maybe so, maybe not. It’s in the ears.

The strings on the acoustic bass are actually pretty nice. I don't know if it's because of the coating, but they almost feel like flats, and they are very light gauge, so they are pretty flexible. Not much string noise, either. I think they are about the only game in town for selection, though. Since the bass has a scale the same as a guitar (shorter than a typical short scale bass,) and it seems any brand of acoustic bass with that scale has them equipped. I couldn't find any other brand that comes in that size. I don't know how typical short scale strings would work with it, maybe with too much string, like using long scale strings on a short scale bass. I'm probably not going to mess with it, anyway. I guess I'll just stick with them, unless something else comes along to try out down the road.

I went back to the violin bass, which I haven't played in awhile, since I got the acoustic bass, yesterday.

If that’s the case at least they are a pretty good choice overall. IMHO :D
If you decide to and get the chance, let us know what you think about recording that little bass of yours, Paul. I think that would be of interest.

I did plug it into the Fender Rumble amp, and it sounded really good. I imagine it probably would sound good recorded, as well. I suppose with this, you could both mic it and plug it in. As for the strings, they seem to cost around $36, which isn't exactly cheap, but they are coated, so I guess they'll last a long time for not being flats, which actually sound good when they age. I doubt I'd be changing them too often, anyway.

Glad it’s working good for you. Paul.

Yep! Those strings cost a bit more; but, like my acoustic which recently had a setup, I don’t use the acoustic a whole lot (although, I should use it more) so the cost balances out. I might consider the extra expense if I were performing on a regular basis or maybe I would just add it to the cost of doing business. In any case the Elixers appear to do the job so it’s no biggie.

Obviously, different acoustical characteristics and/or pickups have a big bearing on choice. So few strings for so many guitars in the equation. One might have to decide if only the acoustic guitar unplugged sounds good, plugged sounds good, unplugged and plugged sounds good, and so on with string choice. All things considered, with difficulty because of the nature of the beast, a neutral sound between unplugged and plugged is usually desired as a starting point and yet, for some, electronic enhancement will suffice with a different approach. The third approach is miking the guitar (not always convenient or possible, but rewarding in many situations).

I might experiment with the Elixer electrics out of curiosity; but, my XLs (not an endorsement, however) do the job for now after trying several brands and types. I may try electric Elixers or NYXLs down the road; but, either way that would call for one more setup, and any string change would be preferred to ease the fret wear if possible. I’ve gone through the string brand change game overtime as I am likely to do with any new guitar in the beginning; but, I’m of the school “Don’t fix what’s not broken, and that goes for strings too.” YMMV. :D

I know what you mean by "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but sometimes other factors can come in to change that, like certain brands that you did like become harder to find, because of the places you like to shop quit selling them, or they get discontinued by the company, itself. I was pretty loyal to Rotosound strings for years, but then they seemed to be discontinued at a lot of places I like to shop, although they still have them at places I'd rather not shop. Then the one place I do like to shop started selling the Dunlop strings, so I tried them and wound up liking them a lot.

Great points, Paul. It reminds me of being a kid in Nova Scotia where one brand was available in our small town 20 miles away. Later I moved to where that brand was hard to find.

At least there is the internet and shipping. Although, there were some catalogs you could order from back in the day. You could live out in the boonies now, and have stuff shipped to you, as long as you have some sort of internet access, if there weren't any shops around. Of course, that did put a lot of store out of business, which is a double edged sword type of thing. That's why it's foolish not have any sort of website if you have any sort of business, to where someone could order something.
