Thank you. Mine has an extra special story behind it that I will share next time I'm behind a physical keyboard.

Here's the story I promised:

I always said that if Fender made a 6 string, 24 fret Jazz Bass I would own one. Fender released the Steve Bailey model that was way out of my price range. I work as an in home caregiver and make less than my local minimum wage. I had gotten a new client and at that time there was a 2 month gap between starting with a new client and getting your first paycheck but you also got 2 months of pay all at once. So when I got those checks I had enough to make a down payment. About 2 months after I ordered it Fender discontinued it. Then they had a problem with the vendor who supplied their finish that put their whole production back about 2 months so that left me with a 9 month wait to get it. The guy who owned the shop told me it was the first bass that he ever sold that appreciated in value before it left the shop. So I'm pretty sure that the one I got is the last one that got made.

Rev J

Terrific story Rev J. When I bought my first new car I struggled to save the money to buy a new custom ordered loaded 1973 Dodge Charger because ‘71s were untouchable. Being a young kid I didn’t know any better than to pay cash. Six months later it never showed, through a miserable winter with no car, and after the runaround from the dealer and Chrysler’s head office, I compromised with another Charger (which was a further mistake) long story short. I haven’t bought Mopar since. It was years after that I found my ordered car had been transported to the other end of the country, and was sold to a higher bidder. :?
I tell you this because I am super glad that you managed to get your order amongst the hurdles. Applause for Fender and your dealer for coming through with the Steve Bailey.

True dat! It's also why before I die I need to find someone worthy to leave it to. I hat the thought of it ending up in a vault or Chumlee drooling over it.

I’ve already made that decision. We have no kids and no family musicians aside from one with an accordion. :P
My first thought is to leave my gear to a group of underprivileged and troubled kids. A thoughtful cop began this local gathering to learn music. They have a place where they perform.

My other choice, I’ve instructed my wife to pass the gear on to a group here in Canada called Guitars For Vets (option: Wounded Warriors). This is a program that helps those in need to combat mental and physical issues from having served in the Armed Forces. My music store supports such groups. I’m pretty sure USA, the UK, Australia/NZ, and other countries have similar programs.

Canada:

USA:

I have no doubt that a good home awaits a gifted guitar and/or associated gear (new or used in working condition).
Besides, I’ve been entertained by a lot of talent on military bases both here, and in the States. It would be great to hear more from these men and women. As long as some good comes out of this, the giving will have served its purpose. If the gear is sold to support the cause. so be it. Likely it will be used as intended, however. :D

Maybe, this will pass on down to their children and their children, hopefully in peace.

Those are all good options. I was actually thinking about pulling a "Gran Torino". I'd be like Clint Eastwood with dreadlocks minus the racism.

I put some time in on the Ibanez bass, yesterday. It's been a while, since I've mainly been playing on the violin bass, lately. I especially like the Dunlop flats I've put on it. They are some of the best playing strings I've used. I'd like to even try the guitar versions for my Squier Tele Custom. I've had some Ernie Ball Slinky .10's on it for ages, so I'd like to see if I like those as much as the bass ones.

Hey, Paul:

When I was 14 (that was yesterday) I use to buy 6 strings from this 128 year old company.

Have you (or anyone here) ever tried their bass strings?

http://www.blackdiamondstrings.com/HTMLPages/bass.html

Availability may be a distribution issue in some places; but, they’re still being made.

I've heard of those, but have never tried them.

Funny thing that just crossed my mind. My strings were Black Diamond, and so was my baseball glove at the time.

I noticed that they are based in Sarasota, Florida, which is south from St. Petersburg, Florida, which I had lived at for 25 years, or so. Funny thing is I don't ever remember seeing their strings in any of the shops that I frequented down there, I maybe I just don't recall them, since that wasn't something that I paid attention to, until the last 10 years or so. I used to just buy whatever was cheap, and really didn't pay attention to that sort of thing. Kind of strange, when you think about it, with all of the GAS for instruments and amps, and all of that, since that does play a major part in your overall sound.

Yeah, it’s strange how those things are. There wasn’t a distribution like there is today when you take into consideration that many of the suppliers of strings, whether they make them or rebrand them, also provide other goods to the dealers. Sometimes, their suppliers include a complete brand such as Fender guitars, amps, and strings, or a limited brand focused on making strings such as Black Diamond. In my case, in 1962 there was one rural music store and Black Diamond was the only brand they carried. Of course, others were available, but the game was quite different in those days. Besides, there were a lot of local Maritime musicians in the neighbourhood, and they too used what was available.

I remember seeing Black Diamond stings, in local stores in Fort Lauderdale in the 60's.

It's possible they had them, but I'm trying to think back at least 30 years, when I was pretty clueless about a lot of that stuff. I do remember Dean Markley, GHS, and Fender when I started out, because I seemed to have used a lot of those, whatever I could afford at the time. I'm sure D' Addario came into the picture, or at least a little down the road, as well. There was some sort of cheap off brand, as well. I can't even remember the name of them, now. I think they didn't even make it into the 90's.
