Sorry to read about your PF-500, Glenn. On the other hand, good you caught it in time. That Hartke TX600 looks to be a beauty. I almost bought a skookum car deck in the 70s that had that look. Very cool. And with a headphone jack too!

Jello time!

Thanks, in a way I shouldn't be surprised about the PF head having an issue. It may have been an older version that was never reworked.

Yeah,........ when a head has had issues in the past, Ya' never know. Obviously this floor model was around for a bit. I'm good to drop it, and move on. The Jello doesn't sound to bad either.

It did shut down. Like most of the SS amps it probably has a thermal protector in it. The fan was running, but for some reason something was firing up in it. The volume started to drop off, that's when I started to check out the unit. Hot, fan running, and then shut down.

That sounds like that issue that they had with those early models.

Yes, and I believe you're correct on that all the way. At least the Hartke is fresh out of the box. I may be worth taking a look at one for future reference. Image

I have to say, that's a pretty cool looking amp. Of course, what matters is how it sounds, and performs. Hopefully, you won't have any issues with it. 8)

You're right there with me on this Hartke head as well.

I'm going back to the violin today. I guess I'm in that sort of mid 60's mind set, musically.

That's a good bass to go back too. There were a lot of hollow body basses played in the 60's. Other than Paul McCartney, I always liked the sounds The Association had in their songs. The song "Windy" in particular. Can't forget Jack Casady.

The 60's is why I wanted a hollow body bass in the first place. I've always liked that sound they had. I know it's not exactly "hi-fidelity" with active preamps and all of that jazz, but there's room for everything, as far as bass sounds go, I think. I've been listening to a lot of Jack Casady, lately. I like the band Hot Tuna quite a bit, especially their live material. His Epiphone signature bass looks and sounds pretty cool, too.

Jack Casady knows the bass without a doubt.

Yeah, funny thing is I didn't get into listening to him until maybe a year or two ago. I casually knew Jefferson Airplane (songs on the radio, that sort of thing,) and heard of Hot Tuna, but I never seriously sat down and actually go through their back catalog. I think seeing the Epiphone video they made about him talking about his 20th Anniversary Signature bass, and show him playing with Hot Tuna got me interested. I guess it was just one of those things where you get caught up listening to a particular group or genre of music, and you don't tend to stray too far from that, until you just decide to expand your horizons a bit, or you might come across something accidentally and think "hey, this is actually pretty good!"

There are, or were some all time great players from then. Mark Andes, from Spirit is one of the ones that may not have the notoriety of some, but a great player.
