Well, that is your brand. You're not as fickle as I am with strings. :P Actually, that's not really true, since even though I might think of trying different brands, I seem to wind up just going back to Rotosound flats, anyway. Blame it on the Who, and "The Who Sell Out," and that Rotosound jingle they did, I guess. :P

There sure are enough different brands, and type of strings on the market today. It pretty much comes down too finding the one, or ones a player likes. I've just had a lot of good luck with the D'Addario Strings.

I actually put a little time into the violin bass, today. I was kind of neglecting it ever since I got the Ibanez bass, but I suppose that can happen when you get new instruments. It's still a great bass, which I'm sure I'll get back into playing more often. I do wish I could get a better recording tone with it than I have, but maybe I just need to try and tweak the preamp more, or maybe some sort of additional plugins might help. I mean it's only a bass I paid $100 for, so it's not going to be a Hofner, or even an Epiphone, but I think I can make it work. It at least sounds pretty good live.

If you say it does better as a live performer, than it does as a studio bass, keep for the stage. You may not need to tweak it, or do improvements to it as a live playing bass.

I guess I'll see how it pans out down the road, as far as recording goes. There's always different things you can try to get a certain sound, or whatever.

I knew quite a few players that had a different bass for stage, because of liking the feel of it, etc.

That's true, or didn't want to take them on the road because of their value, etc.

Hey there, Glenn. How do you find the balance comparison with the Ric as opposed to the Fenders (such as neck dive or compensation for it)?

TIA
FSB

I don't feel any neck dive on the Ric. It feels balanced out rather well. I play with the bass more to the side, than in front of me. I also have the head of the bass on an angle, pointed more up, than at a 90 degree angle. Maybe guessing at about a 60 degree angle.

That would probably put the Ric in the comfort zone then.

I like your style. :D

Still, judging by the amount of players with the tone of a Fender Bass, neck dive or no neck dive, they have a substantial following. I think more than a few here in the Forum would agree to that. :P

As great as the Ric is, my top bass is the Fender USA Geddy Lee Jazz. I do contend, that the USA GL Jazz, is the best Jazz Fender creates at this time. Image

I picked up the Peavey Zodiac bass for the first time in awhile, last night, and jammed with it for a bit. You know, it actually plays pretty good, and the neck feels pretty good, as well. The maple fretboard gives it more of a snappier tone, if that is the right way to describe it. I'm wondering though if down the road that I could put light gauge flats on it, and it won't develop that weird buzzing in the A string again, like it did when I had the heavier flats on it, but that disappeared when I put the rounds on it.
