You notice much tonal difference between the Rosewood and the Pau Ferro, sans the difference between short and long scales?

I'm not to quick to notice a tone difference, as much as the actual playing of the long scale, compared to the short scale. The pups are different, so that can't allow a total factual comparison of tone differences between the two woods. I don't want to get into the Maple board into the mix. Especially my USA GL Jazz, since it has a third different type of pups as the other two basses. The two constant's in the my mix is, the instrument cord, and the amp.
I like the sounds I'm getting from the three basses into the Ampeg setup.

I guess the closest way to determine that would be two of the identical basses, with the exception of the fret boards. Even then, there would probably still be other variables besides that.

The wood in the body may have a different affect also, between the two.

The USA Geddy Lee Jazz got played yesterday just over an hour. I still think the USA GL Jazz is the best Fender Jazz made. Image

I'm playing the Am. Pro. Jazz more lately. I do like having only the two Jazzes, it makes life less stressful when it comes to deciding which one to play next.

I'm going to be playing the new Ibanez, instead of the violin for awhile, I think. I want to put some time in on it, and break it in, as it were. I've already done some recording with it, and it plays nice.

That's great that you like the sounds from the Ibanez. The more you play it, the better it is.

That's true, especially when I change the strings on it, as well.

Once the new strings get stretched out, you should be set.

Yeah, flats do need to have some playing time. Even the rounds actually have a better feel to them after putting a few hours into playing on them.

Speaking of strings and tuning, my bass knowledge asks this dumb A question, “ Are there alternative tunings as in other axes?”

FSB

When I was a kid with absolutely no tuning knowledge my first guitar had plenty of alternative tuning.

There are alternative tunings, but that depends on your playing style, etc. I've always done fine with a standard tuning.

I found a Sea Foam Pearl, Spl. Edition Deluxe PJ Precision. It was on a decent sale price, and new.
