I almost went back to my Precision Bass tonight, when I was jamming for 7 hours, but the violin just won out, and I couldn't be arsed to take it out of the case. I did however, play with the Telecaster for about a 1/2 hour during that session, so at least I did that. Maybe I'll take out the Precision in the next few days, since I'm starting to feel a little bit guilty ignoring it for so long. :P

When there's few basses, it can get to be a challenge as to which one to play.

I played the USA Geddy Lee Jazz the other day, after playing more of the other two basses. My GL plays really super fine.

I spent several hours playing the Squier Precision, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm going back to it, though. I hate to say it, but I much prefer the violin bass, even though I do like the way the Precision sounds. I guess I'm just used to the size and weight of the violin bass, plus I just like the sound of a hollow body, in general.

There is something to a hollow body violin bass. I can see where you can be favoring it over other types of basses.

Mainly, it's the neck, since I was sitting down the whole time I was playing. I'll bet if I was standing for several hours with that Precision hanging off of me, I'd certainly be feeling that, besides my hand and arm. The violin bass is feather weight, in comparison.

Of course, if you really want to sound like a P Bass, you're not going to with a hollow body. That's the one trade off. There is the option of having a short scale bass with a P Bass pickup in it, like your Mustang, or that Squier Jaguar SS model, which both have that, and a Jazz. That would be an acceptable substitute, I think. Of course, that also means having a way to acquire any of those, which I currently don't, because of lack of funds.

I've toyed around with the idea if anyone would consider a trade with my Precision with a comparable short scale bass. For example, that Squier Jaguar could work, since it costs $100 less than the Squier P, new. It's not like they'd be losing money, I would, if anything, but I'd have a more compatible instrument, as long as I'm playing the violin bass. I've watched a few demos and reviews of it and it does seem like about as decent of a bass as the Squier P is. Of course, videos aren't the only factor, it just gives you a general idea, and not all basses are the same. Then again, I did buy the Precision Bass by going with what I've watched with videos, and it turned out to be a really decent instrument, sans my current playing preferences with short scale necks.

Hey there, Doc. Nice Strat. I had a tungsten grey one with a rosewood fretboard; but, I came to like the maple combo better with the grey bodies. It’s the only reason I traded off that good player. YMMV.

The Mustang PJ has taken care of any Precision sounds I may want, without doing a separate Precision. A short scale with this configuration works well.

That could be an option down the line, if things work out in that favor.

It's a pretty stout playing bass. 8)

In a way, I'm surprised Fender actually made the Mustang PJ. I really think it's a good bass. There would be an ultimate Mustang PJ, with a Maple board.

They did have a Squier Mustang with a maple board, but that also had the traditional Mustang pickup, and not the P and J configuration.

I couldn't remember which Mustang had the maple board. I have to admit, the Rosewood on the Am. Pro, and the Pau Ferro on the Mustang PJ play, and feel great! I do have the Maple board on the USA GL Jazz.
