I played both today for a bit The Am. Pro. has a bit more of a mellow tone to it. Where the USA Geddy Lee has a more of an attack to it. A bolder sound to it. Both basses sound good, but if I we're to take one into a studio session, The USA Geddy Lee would would be the one in the studio.

I'm thinking the neck might have a contributing factor to that with the Geddy Lee, maybe the bridge, too. Do they have different bridges?

The Am. Pro. has the Fender HighMass Vintage style, and the GL has the Fender HighMass Signature Bridge. Both have different pups as well. The AM.Pro. has the V style pups, and the GL has the 70's spl. pups.

Then there is the maple fretboard. I'm assuming the Geddy Lee has the Leo Quan type bridge on it?

The two here. Rosewood / Maple, and the two different bridges.

You ever think about swapping out the necks between the two and see how they'd sound with the different bodies and parts, or would that be too huge of a pain to mess with?

I don't want to mess up a couple of good basses. I like the way they are as is. Like I said before, I don't like turning out, or in screws if I don't have to. The components on both, seem to work well on both as is. The GL neck is a great one.

That's true, sometimes it can be problematic messing around with the necks.

Changing out a neck when I was on the road, was a last resort on a problem. If there was a possibility of something going wrong, a neck issue would be it.

I think that's what was wrong originally with my Peavey Zodiac bass, which I was playing on a bit, last night. Although, ever since I changed the strings out, it seemed to stop that issue. Maybe it was the tension of the strings that were on there that caused that weird A string buzz? I had tried adjusting the truss rod and everything else, while I had those heavy flats on there, but it really didn't help, until I just stuck on the Fender rounds that were originally on my Squier Precision, and it stopped. Maybe there was something wrong with the strings, themselves? All I know is that it's working now, with the exception of the grounding hum. I'm thinking that I'd like to get that looked at next, after the Ibanez comes back. Although, there still is the short issue with the Squier Jazz, and the Fender Precision Bass Lyte to deal with. After all of that, all of the basses should be in working order. Knock on wood.

It almost sounds like the strings didn't fit into the nut correctly. Check the gauges of your strings if possible. See if you can find out what strings are intended to fit in that nut as well.

Well, those flats that I had on there were Rotosound .105 to .45 gauges, pretty standard, but they have pretty high tension, which made them feel like they were heavier, and why I went with the lighter gauge of .100 to .40 with that brand. I think the Squier Precision came with Fender .100 to .45 gauges, which is around the same ball park, but being rounds, aren't as stiff, or heavier feeling. It's possible that the tension of those flats could have caused the issue. I once put heavy gauge flats (even heavier than those Rotosounds, I think) on an Ibanez bass that I had many moons ago and it warped the neck on it. When I took them off, it straightened back out. That was the only time that ever happened to me, but those strings that did that were like friggin' bicycle handle bars as strings. :P

Strings can be too much fun to keep track of.

Yeah, they can be expensive, especially when they're bass strings, too. If you're a double bass player, even more so. The cheapest I've seen those strings were around $100 or so. I guess you don't have to change them that often, though.

I couldn't keep up with those either.
