I've been going back to my violin bass lately, especially since I tweaked the neck and action a bit to lower it. It's been playing and sounding good through the Fender combo, as well.

That’s great, Paul. It’s always rewarding to have a good setup that can translate to better playing with the right vibe to go with it. :D

It certainly has a different feel to it than the Precision Bass, that's for certain.

A violin bass can have a distinct sound to it. Have fun playing it.

It does that. The weight of it is very light, as well. You could jam for hours holding it and barely even feel it.

The Violin Basses usually do have that great feature of less weight. I liked the Violin Basses I had.
One of the things that sent me off on the Gibson SG Std. odyssey, obvious the SG body shape, and it's 7.10 pounds. It feels good to my neck, and back.

I've had the opportunity to play on an Epiphone version of your bass (the short scale, EB-0 model, not the EB-3,) and an actual Gibson one from 1968 in some shop in Florida. I remember both being nice players, and not unwieldy at all. The short scale can make the neck pretty fast, going from one end to the other. I didn't play them standing up, but I could tell they wouldn't be too bad for playing a long time standing, especially with a good strap.

The Gibson you played was about, or the same pretty much as my 1969-1970 EB0 was. I never play sitting down, if I am thinking about purchasing a bass anymore. There's too much of a different feel for my playing from standing up, to sitting down playing.

I think it was an EB-0. I don't remember if it had two pickups or one, though. It was cherry red, I do remember that, and they wanted $800 or $900 for it, something like that. As if I had that kind of money at the time. :P

Gibsons EB series Basses were never cheap. Like I said before, early 1970 I payed $349. for my EB0, without a case. I bought some odd shaped case for it, and wrapped it up with a bunch of beach towels to fill up the gaps in the case. It worked.

According to an inflation calculator, that would be $2,201.26 in today's dollars. They're actually cheaper these days, when you look at it that way.

Ah! Then there is the colour. So much to choose from. As soon as it is chosen an explosion of others arrive to surround it in all their glory. Some good some bad . . . but, there they are waiting to be the next chosen colour like players looking to have their time on center stage.

What will it be? What pick will be the lucky one to be scooped from this palette that awaits?
:D

I could seriously be swayed to maybe a Black finish, over the factory Black finish, I'm not sure though. Some serious deliberations, or hallucinations may be required for this acquisition. :?

That looks to be pretty skookum. Lots of choices on those paint chips, huh?

With regards to black, and being that car colours are transferred to guitars, I’ve always like that black cherry finish seen on some Caddies. I don’t know the true name , but I believe it’s a clear coat in black cherry red over a black undercoat or the other way around. Looking at it one way you get black and from other angles the subtle black cherry red shows through.

I’ve seen candy apple colours do a similar effect with and without sparkles or flakes the best being real sea shell bits like mother of pearl. I used to have a terrific 60s out of print hot rod paint book from Petersen’s that had pearl, candy, and metallic formulas. I wish I had it today for reference, but the paint has changed anyway.

No matter, I know you’ll pick something cool, Mr. Nylon. 8)
