I think so. I'm sure it shouldn't be a major fix, I'd think.

I'd think a pretty easy one to do.

I'll be going back to my Precision Bass, as soon as I put the new flats on it. I didn't get a chance to do so yesterday for some reason. I had been putting more time in with the Jazz Bass, which I had done in a while, because of the short in it, but it seems to be doing OK, if I just play sitting down recording.

It sounds like a short caused by a lose connection being pulled.
I don’t know about you guys, but it always seems these things happen at the most in inopportune time. It’s always an inconvenience but these gremlins always seem to be waiting in the shadows when you either don’t have the tools handy or the time to waste.

The older I get the more often the fix is right in front of me and I missed seeing it.

Hi all !
I'm still confused whether to choose guitar or bass. Some people say its boring when you play the bass alone and I'm not planning to play for a band.So should I take up bass?

I'm going to sell the Heritage Cherry SG Std. probably Monday. I like the Walnut SG Std. better for it's finish, and grain in the body. Both play well, and the same. I don't need two of the basic same basses. Image

Mojo is a big part of the whole, and keeping the Cherry would be a pretty expensive parts supply.

Well, that answered my question on another thread, where I first noticed the pic gone. I had a feeling you probably wouldn't hold on to one or the other, since they are pretty much identical, since you don't need a backup, like you would if you were touring.

Very true. For some reason the Walnut just gets more play time.

The Walnut won out on this one.

I know you were saying that you were favoring it more. Was it a vibe thing, or just the way it felt with the overall construction?

Hi, and welcome to the Forum, anros1. That’s a tough question to answer. I’m sure you’ll get lots of answers. I believe it’s personal thing for the most part. For some either or both could be the answer. There are some factors to consider though. Here are some:

1) Weight. This is self explanatory. Not only does the bass usually weigh more, but you will also want to consider the amp and possibly speaker cabinet too.

2) When it comes to both guitar/bass and amplification is there one or more things more than the other that grabs your attention? Looks? Sound? Price?

3) As a drummer and guitar player I can make this general statement that I’m sure others will find agreement or disagreement with.

There are plenty of good and bad guitarists, but a good or great bass player is very much appreciated as there are fewer, and should you decide to play with a band you might find it an advantage.

A sense of great rhythm is beneficial of course.

Also, again generally speaking it may be easier to play bass with different genres as many drummers find easy to do. Accomplished guitarists can also do this to some extent, while other guitarists locked in a genre may find it less comfortable.

Bass guitar is popular with trios with or without guitar.

4) If you plan to do vocals you can be a Sting or McCartney with a bass, or a Chuck Berry or Eric Clapton or . . . with a guitar.

5) If you want to be a picker and play lead guitar like Hank Marvin and the Shadows or Jeff Beck, make up your own instrumentals, or play rhythm like Keith Richards or Prince or Scotty Moore, or maybe do a little Country Rock like Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, or belt it out like George Harrison or Jimi Hendrix. Buddy Guy, or . . . well. you get the idea. Then a guitar will do just fine.

Whichever you choose, I would try both bass and guitar with someone who has the knowledge of both. Maybe, a rental first will give you a good idea on what suits you and your taste. A good read in the other Forums will give you some great background in pluses and minuses to consider for your needs.

In any event, enjoy the journey finding that instrument of your choosing. :D

You also have a multitude of other stringed instruments like mandolin, banjo, ukulele, bouzouki, auto harp, balalaika, to name but a very few, but that's opening a whole other can of worms. As for your query about whether to choose between a bass and guitar, Fender Strat Brat is spot on with his reply, especially it is a tough question to answer, since it a personal thing.

I've been playing bass for almost 30 years, and that's the instrument I chose to be a part of, even though technically I've had a guitar laying around just as long. It's what speaks to me the most. I love the sound and feel of that low end at my disposal. I've never been bored playing bass by myself, even though I'd rather play with other musicians, either. I do like to write my own songs, or song ideas, so that does feed my creativity.

I guess it all boils down what do you hope to accomplish with your creativity. If you could do anything, what would that be? When you listen to music, what sticks out to you the most with it? I think the key there is to figure that out and follow that, and if it doesn't feel right, then try something else, or don't do anything at all, if you choose not to.

It might sound corny or cliched, but follow your heart. The thing is, there is no easy solution to it, to where you'll figure it out overnight. For example, there's no such thing as learn guitar or bass in 7 days, despite what these ads might claim. Once you start, you have to put your time in, but that goes with anything in life. You get what you give. Sure, there are certain short cuts you can do, which can help, but a lot of the fun of it is to see where it can take you.

Well said, Paul. That pretty much tells it in a nutshell.

Johnny Cash put it this way:
“Daddy sang bass. Mama sang tenor. Me and little brother would join right in there.”

I don't honestly know. They both did play the same, and other than it was the Heritage Cherry, I guess I was going hold on to it because of the finish, like my old EB0 had.
