I checked again, and they don't. They have the coated strings, but that's not the same thing. That's about the only negative that I have with the place, is they don't carry certain items, or they quit doing so. Maybe the stock just doesn't move that much, and that's why.

The first guitar and not bass I had was a nylon string acoustic that was my oldest sister's that she gave me. No clue what the name of it was, if it even had one. I eventually put very light gauge steel string acoustic strings on it, which I'm sure was a no-no, but it didn't seem to do anything to it, and I had another nylon string guitar that was a nicer player that I got for free, other than the cost of replacing the tuners on it, which were broken.

For some reason, I'm playing, and preferring the Walnut SG Std., over the Heritage Cherry SG Std. Funny, because I would have thought the Heritage Cherry would've had a lot more play time than the Walnut. Oh well, no complaints here. Both have exceeded my expectations. Road Rex Approved!

Aw. Now you’ve made Electric Lady jealous, Glenn.

My story is similar, Paul. My first and second guitars were freely given to my dad to give to me. Strange that I remember the name of the nylon strung Framus, Maybe it was because it was my first; but, with the second, a jumbo all maple western, I can’t recall the name. I remember stringing it with Black Diamond steel strings (In 2015 Namm recognized BD for 125 years as a supplier. EW&F bass player Verdine White is reported to have said their bass strings were the best he had ever played.) Recently, I was told, from a competitor’s rep from a company introducing their all maple acoustic guitar, that Gibby had some all maple acoustics available back then. I only hope I didn’t lose out by not keeping mine should that have been the case.

They still make Black Diamond strings. I was looking at those, but wound up sticking with Rotosounds, which has been my brand (for bass strings, at least,) for at least 5 or 6 years now. The Black Diamond strings were a bit more expensive, but I think they've been around since the late 1800's, I think.

I found out a few things between my basses, since I've started using them for recording purposes. My violin bass doesn't really record too well, but it could be the way I have my MXR Preamp set up. It was a bit too boomy, and the signal not hot enough. It might be best suited just for live playing, or I'll try to mess with it some more. I wound up using the Jazz Bass right now, since it was the easiest to record with, and sounded really good. When I get flats for the Precision Bass, I'll see how that works, which I'm sure will be fine, but the rounds it wasn't working for me on the track I was working on.

I don't think it bother's her too much. She sleeps a lot. Even if Electric Lady isn't played that much, it's an honor bass.

They are indeed around and have been since 1890. When I lived in Nova Scotia in ‘62 Black Diamond were one of the limited choices in the small town I lived in. Fortunately, they were a good choice as I remember. I haven’t tried BDs (made in Sarasota, Florida) on the Strat or the Taylor, but I’ve since found a dealer here, so that may happen as a trial down the road. I understand the ones I used as a kid are no longer made as technology and production methods have developed a more modern Black Diamond lineup. Still, comparison is always interesting. I have yet to compare the prices though. The well respected Rotosounds have a pretty good reputation of their own.

Are there any brands of strings made in Canada? I know you have Godin and Traynor for instruments and amplifiers, to name a few.

That’s a great question, Paul. I’m not aware of any. Maybe somebody will chime in on this. There’s some pretty famous guitar players from in and around Hamilton, Ontario. Maybe Steeltown would be a good place to start the investigation. :P
FSB

There was a company called Firewires now reported to be out of business. Godin and Wyres make strings but both are produced in USA with Wyres proposing to make them in Canada as well. Godin may rebadge strings for other Canadian companies that use their strings, but I can’t say for sure.

i'll always be a strat guy. over the years I've owned a 74 les paul custom, prs, Ibanez, and a few others. nice guitars, but never bonded with them. I own a phred instruments bolt Garcia guitar and a 339 epiphone today in addition to my 3 strats, but they don't get as much play. just a happy stratguy I guess.

I doubt it. Haven't heard of any

I'll be going back to my Precision Bass, as soon as I put the new flats on it. I didn't get a chance to do so yesterday for some reason. I had been putting more time in with the Jazz Bass, which I had done in a while, because of the short in it, but it seems to be doing OK, if I just play sitting down recording.

It sounds like a short caused by a lose connection being pulled.
