Though I like my Snark clip on tuner, I also like new toys. So, after reading of a new tuner from TC Electronics, I purchased their recently released, Polytune-clip on tuner. It's pretty cool.

These things work pretty good? I have an old stand by Boss TU-12 (which they don't make anymore) that has served me well for years, but have wondered about these clip on jobs. It looks certainly a lot more convenient to use.

I use an eNOTE. Works fine. Better than the one built into my amp.

I recently switched to a Fender FT headstock tuner for my Acoustics. It only cost me 10 bucks on E-Bay and it works great.

I'm a big fan of the Peterson stobe clip-on tuner. They aren't cheep, but they are so good that I set up my guitars.

As I noted, I have used the Snark clip-on, which works quite well, but enjoy the features of the Polyclip tuner. The video demonstrates this well. Though more expensive than the Snark, I think it's worth the $49 asking price. It's quite convenient.

I've been using a clip on tuner for a while. Works great. The last time I went gear shopping, I saw a capo with a tuner built into it.

This sounds very cool. Tuning can get wanky when you add a capo.

I use clip-on tuners when jamming acoustic with others.
I don't find them to be as useful for electric guitars.
I'm not sure why.

I have the Snark and I don't like it at all. It's not nearly accurate enough for my ear.
I have the Peterson and I like it but I don't use it often because tuning with it is a slow process.

I'm going to check this Poly-Clip out.
The Poly-Tune pedal I use on my board is amazing. It's fast, accurate and easy.
If the clip-on is even half the device the pedal is, it will be my go-to tuner for acoustic.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I too find the clip ons I've tried (a couple of Snarks and a three or four no names) to be a bit off on electrics. Not a big deal with jamming, but I was playing with a guy who was meticulous about being dead on and he told me one night that I always seemed just a bit out of tune. He agreed that he saw me tune, etc. ... but sorry, man, you're always a bit off. Going back to my floor Fender PT-100, I was able to make him happy.

I find that the clip ons tend to wander whereas I can get a solid tune with the floor tuner. They seem to be sensitive to just where you clip them on and maybe how overall resonant the guitar is? In any event, the only time I ever had anyone complain about my being out was that one guy, so I usually use a clip on anyway.

The TCE looks good. I was using a Snark, and it fell apart. So now I've been using a TCE Polytune 2 Mini. Nowhere near as compact as a clip on is, but it is pretty accurate. I'm going to check this TCE, PolyTune Clip. Thanks for the post.

A pedalboard tuner also has the advantage that it won't pick up sound from those around you. A headstock tuner can be all over the place in a noisy environment. Also, pedalboard tuners by default mute the sound while you tune, so you don't disturb others either.

But often, I prefer tuning by ear, to a key note. When playing with instruments that can't easily be tuned, or use just intonation, this is very helpful.

When I use a clip on tuner, I just turn down the volume an the clip on picks up the sound on the neck head. no volume needed.

I use a Snark--and I love it--easy to read, easy to use.
And it's not so expensive either--and this isn't' a case of getting what you pay for.
I have a more expensive clip on tuner I stopped using after I tried a Snark.

Like some others, I LOVE my Snarks! I use them on stage, during practice, for recordings, etc.. Over the years, I've probably used just about every brand of tuner out there from Banana and Radio Shack to Korg, Sabine and Peterson...when I was young I even used a "pitch pipe" and in my teens I used a pitch fork. Today I honestly can't imagine ever owning anything other than a Snark. In fact my bass player says the same thing...he's been playing even longer than I have (over 40 years) and he ended up buying one of my Snarks from me at a gig because he was so blown away by it. Electric, acoustic, bass...I even tuned my Autoharp with my humble little Snark!

Over the years I really got fed up with pedal tuners...most are a pain in the butt to see on stage, you have to be standing RIGHT THERE to read them, it adds another cable and such to your signal chain (and another "box" to the gig bag), many don't do well with acoustics, yadda, yadda. I can't speak for others, but both of the Snarks I currently own (along with the Snark I sold to my bass player) are EASY to read, they are insanely easy to use, I've had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL using them in "noisy environments" and they are dead nuts accurate...the only tuners I've used that are more accurate are strobe tuners (fine for doing guitar setups, but PITA to use on stage). The fact that they're also affordable is just icing on the cake! For my money, Snarks get an A++, 12 out of 10 stars rating! When it comes to guitar playing essentials, in my book Snarks rate right up there with guitar picks, a good strap, decent cables and hardshell cases...for me, a Snark is a "must have".

Anyways, I'm sure those Polytunes are fine, but I don't really care for the way the display reads and for the price difference - I'll stick with my Snarks.
