Happy six-oh, my friend......let there be thirty or forty more before the mother ship returns to pluck you from these terrestrial environs!

No more pain and suffering.

http://obits.silive.com/obituaries/siad ... =175273258 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Native Staten Islander Roy Simmons, 60, of Jackson, N.J., a quality control officer, loyal family man and talented guitarist, died Friday in Whiting (N.J.) Health Care Center.

Born and raised in Rosebank, he graduated from New Dorp High School.

Mr. Simmons earned his bachelor's degree from St. John's University, Grymes Hill.

He had worked for many years as a quality control officer for Hansome Energy Systems in Linden, N.J.

After he and Christine Cook were married, they lived in New Brighton, Travis and Dongan Hills before relocating to Old Bridge, N.J., in 2004. Mr. Simmons settled in Jackson a year ago to be closer to his daughter.

He was an outstanding guitarist and played every kind of music imaginable, his family said, but rock music was his favorite. He also taught guitar and repaired instruments.

Mr. Simmons was very outgoing and happy-go-lucky, and had many friends. A real people person, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, family said.

He was devoted to his family and will be missed, they added.

Christine, his wife of 20 years, died in 2014.

Surviving are his daughter, Kim Cataldo; his brothers, Michael and Drew, and two grandchildren.

:(

It was a rough go for Roy these past five years or more. More family issues than I need to share with you here. To add insult to injury, his wife was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast disease and she chose not to abuse herself with the suffering associated with chemotherapy, the prognosis being grave. The juice was not worth the squeeze. Roy had fervently hoped that he would survive his colon cancer. Early this year he advised several of us who were close to him of his terminal prognosis, opening with the following words..."I'm done''. We were hoping that Roy would have given his family a way to touch base with us when he passed. Mike, Rollie, and I would send him an email every week or so. Having heard nothing recently, Mike chose to investigate, and so here we are. Richer for what he was able to share. Poorer for his passing. Another six-stringer gone home.

Ave, Atque, Vale.
