+1 i was actually going to say that until i saw your post.
great minds think alike....

I'm glad there's several great minds here. First off, Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan in my book were very under - appreciated in their time ( RIP to both  ). I've said it before and I'll say it again.... of all the great guitarists out there.... none could match Rory Gallaghers versatility. He played awesome acoustic, electric and slide guitar. His best easily matches up with Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughan, Page, Beck, Santana, Allman, Winter, etc. He also wrote, sang and produced the vast bulk of his output for almost 30 years. He also played GREAT harmonica ( go to youtube and listen to " All Around Man"), mandolin, saxophone and sitar. He formed probably the first power rock power trio in 1966 - Taste. He opened for Cream on their farewell concert at Albert Hall when he was 20. Melody Makers ( Europe's premier music paper then) musician of the year in 1972. Guest played on Muddy Waters " London Sessions " - Albert KIngs " Live in Montreux " and others. Had a movie and live album out at the same time which is very unusual - "Irish Tour 74 ". Played in northern Ireland when almost nobody else would because it was so dangerous - and they would hear bombs going off still !!!! Star act for Germany's Rockpalast music show which is first music show beamed into Communist Eastern Europe. Above all he was a decent person who always had time for his fans and he never wavered in his belief and love of the blues. He was not into being a " STAR" which is why he never made it really big in the US, but he was huge in Europe. Was he the best guitarist - NO - there is no best. But I can't think of any other guitarist of that caliber who could do all of that !!!!

+ a million concerning Rory Gallagher! I can't believe he didn't break bigger in the States. Too bad this guy has passed on. Since I discovered him a couple of months ago, I pretty much have him on every single playlist I listen to. I listen to him daily.

That's FANTASTIC !!!! I've been a Rory fan for over 35 years now and saw him live about a dozen times. If you never saw & heard him live, especially in the early / mid 70's you will never know what you have missed. I've seen just about every big name guitarist there is ( no Hendrix, Allman or Bloomfield  ) - his playing & talent are from another planet. Several of these were at the Bottom Line in NYC where I sat about 2 feet from his mike stand - he never played songs the same way twice. With his touring schedule of over 250 dates a year, he said him and the band would get bored to easy to hear the same thing.

If you haven't heard his second solo album " Deuce" - check it out. There is incredible variety of FANTASTIC acoustic , electric and slide guitar playing. Two songs in particular are among his best - " Used to Be" has THE classic Strat sound and " Crest of a Wave" just might be the greatest slide solo in rock history. And to think.... he was all of 23 when he did this !

Hey Baliman,
I am SOOO envious of you, man. To see Rory so many times (as well as those others!) and to sit so close at one point. It had to be a religious experience.
Everyone I speak to who say they love Rock or BLUES, I preach the word about brother Rory.
Deuce is GREAT! I've also got every single video I can find on Youtube of him on my Youtube playlists.
I hope to someday visit the Rory Gallagher corner in Dublin.
Rock on, man!
