I don't know it this falls into your topic, but I have a Telecaster I had built from parts, and it's a pretty complicated beast. Here goes:

1.Pickups - SD Jazz humbucker that has been coil tapped (can be turned into a single coil) neck pickup, and SD Broadcaster pickup in the bridge.
2. Electronics - 5 way switch from the neck to the bridge positions (HB, S, HB&S, S&S, S)
3. Tone knob that 1-3 scoops out the mid-range, 4-6 treble and 7-10 bass
4. An Afterburner 20db volume bust push-pull pot.

It's a great guitar that is very Andy Summers inspired, who incidentally was kind enough to sign the pickguard.

Just a quick follow up on my pick guard. Although there are gaps, I did ensure that the pickups were very snugly fitted to the mdf. This has produced a definite change in the tone.

Now, I don't want to stir up a whole 'tonewood'-type debate here. Yet I had always wondered about mounting pickups. Directly mounting to the body prevents easy adjustments, but surely reduces unwanted vibrations? The Fender vid on the G.E. Smith signature guitar had also interested me in the differences. So I made my guard a little thicker, out of particle-board (mdf in Aus., not sure if it is called that in the States). The pickups were, as I said, as snug as possible. The result is a different tone for sure.

Originally, I was a little annoyed. One of the things that I liked about the CV was the 'classic' tone. To my ears at least, this tone has been modified. There seems to be a bit more definition and 'presence' (I'm grasping for adjectives here, I don't mean to confuse with 'presence' on an amp). But, as you can see, this is not necessarily a good or bad thing - it's just different. It is growing on me though.

Oh - by the way, to continue on the Spinal Tap modding thing, I'm waiting on the right colour plastic for my 3d printer. Vol/Tone knobs that go to 11 are on the way... 8)

Nothing too bizarre...blocked the tremolo and re-wired the tone knobs so I have tone control on the bridge pickup of my Stratocaster; also installed a push-pull pot that turns on the bridge pickup no matter where the selector switch is set. I also keep the "ashtray" bridge cover installed, because (1) it looks cool and (2) pushing the saddles together and adding mass to the bridge seems to increase sustain just a smidge. Changed the stock pickups to SP90'S (Stratocaster-sized P90 pickups) made by Pete Biltoft. I did a few cosmetic changes, too--pickguard, etc.

I also installed a P90 in the neck position on my Telecaster, a four-way switch and a Fender No-Load tone pot, as well as a pickguard change...but none of these things are bizarre.

I have a '79 Stratocaster with a push/pull pot that allows me to use the bridge in all pickup positions. I love the sounds I can get so much that I got the Dlx Stratocaster Plus that has a card which has a similar a ability.

I believe that is the same principle built onto my Carvin Bolt....a switch that employs the bridge pickup onto any combination of the 5 way pickup selector. That....and stainless frets would make this my favorite guitar, except for the narrower string spacing.
My MIA strat is defacto, my favorite because of the string spacing.

I once did a stealth mod to a friend's strat copy at an open jam. The back trem cover was absent, so I inserted a small plastic kids toy that made an electronic "quaaack....quaaack...quaaack (like a duck) when it's little button was slightly depressed.
The friend was performing as nomal...and upon heavy stringing or body sway, the "quaaack...quaaack" would suddenly be picked up by his pickups....and then be amplified.
No one could figure out what the hell was goin on.(till later)
Funny!
