Congrats mate, and thanks, your story and pic really lifted me, I just lost my 11 year old Rotty in January and I'm still devastated about it, I live alone and she was such a big part of my life, such a great companion I swear she could read me like a book and knew what I was thinking!

Molly is gorgeous, I can see the cheekiness in her eyes and she has an expression like a happy Muppet! she looks so happy to be in her new family.

Thank you for the kind words and please know that you have my very deepest sympathies on the loss of your Rotty. Having lost 2 this past year, I do very much understand your pain. We had lost Kara, a 15 year old Chow/Elkhound mix the day after Xmas. While all my "kids" are special of course, Kara was particularly so in that she was a handicapped dog...she had suffered a genetic spine injury when she was 6, leaving her partially paralyzed in her hind quarters and she spent the last half of her life in doggie wheel chair. Being handicapped never really slowed her down...until her last year, she was still able to run and play with our other dogs (via use of her wheel chair of course) and she always loved going for long walks at the park, however her last year was particularly difficult as she started to suffer from re-occurring bladder infections due to her condition. It was "her time" and it wasn't unexpected, but it was still very hard to loose her. Then just 4 months after we lost Kara, we also lost Lady, our 12 year old Golden Retriever. Lady had been my father's dog until he collapsed in Oct 2013...he later passed away in Feb 2013 and my wife and I kept her (along with Brindle who was my father's cat). Lady had been something of a complete shock as she was in good health...after my dad died, we were able to get Lady's weight back down and she got regular exercise (dad seriously over-fed her) and she was back to where she could run and play with our other dogs. The vet simply thinks she had a heart attack...one day she was fine, 3 days later she was gone. It happens, but especially after having just lost Kara, it was pretty devastating to say the least. Dogs bring so much joy into our lives and I wouldn't change it for the world, however it's always so very hard to loose one, let alone 2 back to back like this.

That said, being of Pagan beliefs, I have to add that the cycle of life goes on...I'm so grateful and so blessed for the time I got to spend with Kara and Lady and as one journey ends, another has begun. Molly has brought joy and laughter back into our home in ways that only a young puppy can! It's just impossible to be depressed when you spend the whole day chasing a puppy around the house! LOL!!!

Great to hear you're responsible with your pets... I've done a few things to help out some of the animal shelters in my area. Thank You for being one a the good folks who care about the animal.
That's one cute kid, thanks for posting a pic :D

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, both my wife and I have also done a fair bit of volunteer work for local shelters over the years...assisting with fund raisers, transports, adoption events, etc.. We stopped doing the foster thing because we get too attached, but with the exception of my Dad's dog and cat who we took in when Dad passed away, all of our "kids" have been rescues. I just can't see "buying" a dog (or cat or other critter) when sooooooo many are always in need of homes.

What a cute pup! And thank you for being a responsible owner and not having her disfigured in any way! Never could quite figure that one out. It certainly isn't done for the dog!
Have fun!
(I miss my golden!)

Peace,
Gridlok

Thank you for the kind words...and I honestly couldn't agree with you more. I never understood the point of taping/pinning ears, bobbing tails and especially de-clawing cats (it's amazing how many people don't understand the term "amputation" on that last one)...it just always seemed barbaric to me to do that to an animal. To me it's always been about what's best for the dog (or cat/other) and honestly, finding out what you end up with is half the fun anyways!

Happy for you and the wife. I luvs puppy's and dogs in general. (The Elmer Fudd in me hates rabbits, however).

I know what it is to lose a pet. When I was 14 years old I came home to my dog tied up and frothing at the mouth with eyes rolling back. We, sadly, had to put him out of his misery which gave my kid brother and I many weeks of our own misery.

Later, we discovered Government sprayed DDT to be the culprit (note: the same safe chemical promotion that we hear today was around then!) So, after learning several dogs and cats fell to the same fate in the neighbourhood, my trust of chemicals and politics stayed with me, although I am not a radical IMHO.

I only mention my loss to say that any pet owner will know a similar feeling of kinship with whatever animal they choose. So, to all who have lost their friend, I say thoughts be with you, and to present and new owners, enjoy the rewarding experience.

Cheers.

Different circumstances, but my wife and I lost our first dog in a similar way - phosphate poisoning apparently due to a company dumping their waste in a local river. We had taken the dogs out for a splash in the river on a hot day and the next day, all 3 got sick...we were able to save two of them, but we lost our oldest. That one was also particularly devastating as Mirage (a Dachshund/Golden mix if you can believe it) had just started recovering from some medical issues...it had actually been the first day in about a year that she was running and playing again and then we lost her a day later.

It's always hard to loose "a friend" even in the best conditions, but it's simply unforgivable when it happens because of such incredible human ignorance.

Thanks for telling that difficult story, lomitus. It helps to re-enforce my belief that it would be best to not use harmful chemicals in areas where animals or people can access them, and to prevent kids and four legged friends from traveling over and/or around territory that may have unknown chemicals. As for listings that say that the chemical (or drug) is safe to use . . . take a look at history. "What's the alternative?" or "What's the lesser of the two choices?" is pretty much the norm today. Don't expect that corporations, agencies, and others will either have the full information or best interests at heart. There are choices and many are good alternatives IMHO.

(The dairy farm I lived on kept any trace of suspicious chemicals away from livestock and out of the milk. I now keep it away from the neighbourhood kids and pets . . . and yes, weeds are controlled with a minor PITA, but my parents did not have the amount of crap available today. )

Thanks, to all those who do their part. Kids and pets will benefit from it.
