Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack that is, aka Dr. John and his Nite Trippers.

A FREE Concert will be held Saturday afternoon at the brand new CHS Stadium in Lowertown Saint Paul, home of the Northern League, Saint Paul Saints Pro Baseball Team.

Held in conjunction w/ the 17th annual Twin Cities Jazz Festival.

Should be a great show.

Have seen Dr. John many times, most recently at JazzFest and Tipitina's in New Orleans !

cheers!

We saw him a couple of years ago, here in L.A. He has definitely slowed down. But my daughter, who is 30, said his set was the highlight of the evening, and that included Joe Bonamassa. So I guess he still has it. Here's a video I recorded of Dr. John sitting in on a song with Joe Bonamassa.

Yea... no doubt he's hit the Rev-Limiter, Time catches up to all of us.

But he can still electrify a room !

Have seen him in his 20's, 30's 40's 60's and while the shows have changed a bit, I've never been disappointed.

Actually have met him a few times and the guy just exudes 'Cool' 8) 8)

cheers!

Yeah, DJ is getting on like the rest of us fogies; but, I still love this legend. He has enough in his bag to pull out all the voodoo charms needed to still put the crowd in his spell. Have a great time, Lightnin.

Some people are just born Showmen !

Dr. John is certainly one of them !

We got to CHS Stadium @ 1PM for the 3:30 show. It was 85º, not a cloud in the Sky - really HOT standing in line !!

A friend was running the V.I.P. Seating, and while we had V.I.P. tix, he said he'd get us better seats, not to wait in-line, but come find him at 3:00. I went back to the line where Mrs. LMN was waiting and told her. As we were leaving, the woman in line behind us asked: "Is this guy any good..?? Is it worth waiting,,??" I said: "Are you kidding lady? He's legendary...!!"

So, we went to a nearby Pub and had a snack and a couple Bloodys.

Found my buddy later and he said the V.I.P. section (on the infield) was closed the first 10 rows for Guests and Employees of Sun Country Airlines (the corporate sponsor). Plus, it was all on the infield (the stage was set at 2nd Base), so no shade was available. He told us we had seats in the front row of the stands halfway between Home Plate and 1st, directly across from 2nd Base. This was covered and much cooler, plus, you could actually see. We shared the Box w/ a Film Crew who were filming the Show.

Dr. John was driven out from the Bullpen in a Golf Cart to the Stage. Moving a little slow, leaning on his Mojo Cane, he made his way to the Piano and played a solid two and a half hour show ! He did a stint on percussion, Grand Piano, Electric Piano and pulled out his Telecaster !!

The Crowd reacted underwhelmingly at first as his set began w/ Iko, Iko... St. James Infirmary... Down in New Orleans - all NOLA standards. It wasn't until they struck up Right Place, Wrong Time and Such a Night that the crowd realized who they were listening to and really came alive.

He ended with a few numbers from his new album and a Standing O from the audience !

A great day !!

cheers!
