I'm looking into buying a PA system, but I basically know nothing about them.

There's a Squier package that looks very good, but it only has a 4-channel mixer, and I was hoping to get at least 6.

I'm now thinking that I could buy a mixer and the speakers separately, but then the "I don't know anything" bit comes back at me...

If I bought the Behringer EUROBACK UB1202, it has twelve channels (4 XLR, 8 mono or 4 stereo). The thing I'm concerned about is the "unpowered" bit.
Being completely new to this sort of thing, I don't know what that means.

If anyone could explain that, and possibly recommend a similarly-priced, similarly-spec'd mixer (if it had USB that be even better), I'd really appreciate it.

Have you looked at the Fender Pasport systems they have like six different Pa packages. Specs are all over the place with Pa systems as well as cost.

I like the convenience of the Passport systems, but for what I'd like, they're well out of my price range. The P-80 only has three channels and is $400 - the Squier has four channels and is only $270.

the euro desk cannot power ur speakers with out a power amp. The squire head, will power them. THat is a very simple explination

That's the answer I was looking for.

I'm assuming, then, that a powered mixer would power the speakers?

I'm thinking the Squier may be my best option, at this price level.

Alternately, could I have active speakers and an unpowered mixer?
