Came across this Top 10 list on WatchMojo and found it entertaining as well as informative. I'm not sure I agree with the ranking but that's part of the fun with Top 10 lists.

According to the video, the criteria were "iconic or ground breaking designs, general musicality, enduring popularity with amateurs and pros alike"

    10. Gibson Explorer
    9.Ibanez Jem
    8. Gibson Flying V
    7. Rickenbacker 300 Series
    6. Gibson SG
    5. Gretsch 6120
    4. Gibson ES-335
    3. Fender Telecaster
    2. Fender Stratocaster
    1. Gibson Les Paul

Cheers!
BM

I'm sure a lot of guitars didn't make the list. A little surprised that PRS isn't on there. As for Teisco, they do have some rather unusual designs. I'm not familiar with them at all; just did a little Googling.

Cheers!

Thanks for posting Bluer Monkey. I had not seen this list before.

Understandably, ranking is usually preferential; however, there is a lot of credibility IMHO as to the choices. Other axes may be more beautiful or distinct for some other reason.

I remember being asked who I thought the best drummer was. Overall, that was a difficult if not impossible decision since there are Latin, Jazz, Big Band, Rock, Marching, Speed, Technique, Aboriginal, Sticks, Brushes, Hand drummers, and percussionists with a list of categories that goes on and on.

I think a top ten list of guitars (and/or) guitarists might fit into such a scenario.

But, a list has to start somewhere and this one is a good one based on the criteria mentioned.

Thanks, Bluer Monkey.

Not a single guitar on the list with P-90's...yep that list is more than a little suspect!

The omission of any acoustic guitars from the list is somewhat disturbing.

There have been a lot of popular songs composed on the likes of a Gibson J-160, a Guild F55, or a Martin D28.

I think the assumption is for electric guitars but actually there is nothing in the selection criteria that would exclude acoustic models.

You mention the Gibson J-160 and one in particular that comes to mind is John Lennon's:

Cheers!

I would remove the Explorer and Flying V, and add the Firebird & ES-175.
