Well, so much for that. I had to wait til I got paid. Cashed my check after work, went to go get the Concert.

Gone.. Sold.

Freakin bummer. They wouldn't take a down payment on a consignment sale (GC) So someone swooped it up before I could.

There will be another day. This is Vegas baby. The home of the best gear deals in the world. Let the Pawn shop hunting begin.

Check this out. Two weeks ago, I walk into a Pawn shop on the east side, and walk away with this.

For $65.

I've seen a lot of Brownsville guitars over the years. I was never really sure what to make of them. There are hits and misses. This guitar plays awesome though. The quality of the guitar is as good as the higher dollar Epiphones. What are they going for now?

$65??? I'll take it any day. Love Vegas pawn shops.

The Mustang VI v2 can absolutely produce impressive tones! This involves a bit of time and the right inclination to get through the undeniable learning curve to achieve optimum results! This is very different than a traditional tube amp's plug & play w/ few knobs approach.

So long as your rig has these knobs you're good to go......

Aren't we still waiting to see if the Mustang IV can last past 8-years?

All such threads are usually possession biased.

Many people bought modern SS Amps created to emulate Tube Amps of the past. They're unlikely to trash their own decisions.

For a gigging musician, a modeling amp may save a lot of hassle, w/ the audience not knowing the difference. That's a tremendous advantage.

But, if you're playing for yourself, a good Tube Amp w/ whatever pedals are necessary, is likely to give you the Tone you seek w/o compromise.

Just sayin'...

cheers!

I'm really just joking around with that post.

I'm ok with SS amps to some degree. And you're right about gigging. Although I'm currently not playing shows, I played 90% of them with the JC-50. There was a time when all I had was a Marshall MG-50.

If it really was bothersome to me, I would have never considered the Cyber Twin. I have heard the Mustang IV, and I liked it.

A while back I posted about wanting a Mustang IV, but I got the sense from this forum that it would be a mistake. Look at the responses for the Concert over the Cyber Twin. It was pretty much the same when I posted about the Mustang.

Then, of course, someone wanted to bet me that the Mustang wouldn't last past 8-years.

To be honest, it was one of my favorite moments on this forum. An 8-year bet is freaking awesome. Had I bought the amp, I might have taken the bet just for the 8-years of extra fun. At the time though, I really didn't like the idea of waiting 8-years to get paid.

I would go with the Concert. I'm not a fan of modeling amps.

Sorry you lost the Concert.
The problem I see with the Cyber Twin would be support. I've seen people use Cyber Twins and get some great sounds out of them. I wasn't one of them though. Those things were pretty complex too.
If you're looking for a lot of power, you could get a Silverface Twin and an effects processor and call it a day.

Honestly, I'm just looking to get that Fender sparkly clean. The Concert would have been perfect. I'm not really into el84 Fenders. I want that lush 6l6 Fender sound.

My other amps have nice cleans, but they're different. The Ampeg and Roland don't have that sound. The Hughes & Kettner has a totally different attack to it. It's hard to explain, but it's spongy. The Heidkamp comes the closest. I think I could get it with that amp if I had a tube reverb unit, but those can cost more than a used Concert amp. It's still a possibility I might consider.

You won't get much more clean than an old 100 watt SF Twin. I lugged one of those around for over 30 years. The most reliable amp I've ever owned.

I'd agree that modeling is only close but on the other hand, as I've gotten older, I've tried to simplify. No more showing up with 3 amps and a pedal board that was beginning to resemble the command console of the space shuttle. In that context, I've been reasonably impressed with the Mustang I for home use/travel. It does have some interesting sounds if you want to play around with the software.

Durability does remain an issue. We'll see after I've dragged it around for a couple years. Old real Fenders such as my 86 Champ take a serious beating and still work.

I think you're into something there. EL84s seem more suited for the slightly raw and chiming Orange / Marshall / Vox sound, while 6L6 and 6V6s seem more suited for "Fender-clean", with a tiny bit of natural reverb added for lack of a better description - the quality that makes some of the clean Fender amps sound more clear than studio flat.

Both have their uses. Brian May playing "I Want to Break Free" through a Fender Deluxe Reverb just would not sound the same.
