Something profound happened to me recently. My dad was a touring musician in the 70's. He toured the USA and I was kinda there...My mother was pregnant with me. He met a guy called Tommy Walker (another drummer) while recording and touring as they moved in the same circles. They became really good friends. They had so much in common, my mother mistook Tommy's writing book as my dads because their writing and lyrics were so similar.

When my dad had to return back to the UK, he gave Tommy his writing guitar as a gift.

Fast forward 43 years: Tommy came to my house and gave me the guitar. A 57 Fender musicmaster. My dad died a decade ago which hit me really hard, so to get his guitar from his heyday is just amazing. Like a time capsule.

Thanks! It's such a great experience. Hard to believe almost half a century passes and it ends up in my hands. It's icing on the cake that it plays and sounds so good.

Wonderful story. I can only imagine how you felt when Tom gave your Dad's guitar to you. Beautiful, and it still sounds so good. I'm sure you will be playing from a special place in your heart every time you play it.

Great story! My Dad is still around but doesn't play anymore due to Parkinson's. I remember playing his '53 Les Paul occasionally while growing up and would have loved for it to be passed down to me but it went to his brother. He also had an old Gretsch that I was hoping for but no luck there either. During his last 10 years or so of playing he was using a 7 string Stagemaster set up with 2 bass strings so he could keep a walking bass line going with a thumb pick. Not something I would ever play and certainly not an expensive instrument but for sentimental value is something I hope comes to me eventually.

That is so special.

Good on Tommy for knowing its true worth and for returning it to you to enjoy. The guitar sounds great, and you do it justice. I know your Dad would have been proud to have seen and heard the result. Thanks, for allowing us to participate, thefyn.

I often think of him and how much he's missing. Things like getting married, my brothers adventures etc etc.

His influences are everywhere I look. He even told me to marry the girl I ended up marrying 5 years later. He nudged me in so many directions I wasn't even aware of.

And it keeps giving. I'm obsessed with vintage guitars. I didn't even know he ever owned an electric guitar! I learned on his acoustic.

I still have the acoustic, but the tale of that one is a little less poignant. He bought it off a junkie for 20 quid. Haha.

That's a fender too. fender f35. Sounds fantastic.

If that happened to me I think I would break down in tears.

Great story.

Cheers,
