"Mooney has been a player, collector and student of Fender® guitars and amps for more than 40 years, studying classical guitar in grade school and working summer jobs as a teenager to pay for his first-ever electric guitar: a Fender Musicmaster™. He now boasts a collection of more than 30 Fender guitars."

Let's hope so...

Ditto!

What changes - if any - do you think will come about with this change of management?

Cheers!

  Of course it's all PR hype right now, but I do hope it's all true. F.M.I.C. has been doing a whole bunch of things right lately, and I hope they keep that ball rolling. 8)

Yeah, I read that earlier today on another site. Let's see what happens, I suppose.

I'm sure the new CEO will figure out how to squeeze another nickel's worth of profit from every new guitar and amp that FMIC sells.

And it won't require a degree in rocket surgery to figure out how he'll do it......

Yep.
Hmmm...
FMIC = Fender_Made_In_China :?:

Let's hope he doesn't go there, that would be lower than a snake's belly.

The guy is a player and collector, let's hope he keeps what he works from that point of view.

That would be nice... but a tad unrealistic... :(

In today's world of Int'l. Corporate Management, it all about shareholder equity.

Corporate Officers are compelled to forego any long term strategy in order to concentrate on tomorrow's Closing Price.

Even their compensation pkgs. are designed to reward them for short-term results in their quarterly bonus structures.

It's very likely that Mooney was chosen in part because of the effect his marquis resume' (Disney, Nike) will have on share price.

From his point of view, I seriously doubt that he's intending to end his career at FMIC. It's just another high-profile stepping stone to an even bigger gig down the road.

Fender does not have a 'Branding' problem. If anything, the challenge will be to minimize Brand Dilution as more and more of their satellite brands/products are brought into the Fender spotlight such as: Guild®, Ovation, KMC, Tacoma®, Gretsch®, Jackson®, Charvel®, EVH®, SWR® and Groove Tubes®, among others.

Personally, I'll be very surprised if Mooney lasts 5 years. Less so if it's closer to three.

'Course, as always, this is just my dos centavos on the subject.

cheers!

F.M.I.C. is privately owned and closely held by a small group of investors. Mark Fukunaga owns the largest stake with something like 26-27%. He is American born in Hawaii. He has been involved with F.M.I.C. from the very beginning with the buyout from CBS in 1985.

So there is no shareholder equity or closing price. The amount of overt negativity and anti-Fender sentiment on this board is shameful.

Yes, let's hope so. Although he is a player and lover of guitars - I assume he does if he owns 30 of them. But, and there's always a but, the bottom line with CEOs is to make profit, and especially for the shareholders - investors that do not want to be pissed off. So no matter how passionate he is about git-fiddles, he has to stroke the investors and do whatever it takes to put a smile on their faces by fattening their wallets. Putting that aside, I do hope he does a god job by not sacrificing quality just for the bottom line. Oh so many CEOs out there do just that.

We could probably find fault with any newly appointed CEO. Even Leo Fender ran a legendary company and was both engineer and entrepreneur who learned the ropes without having the skill or complete knowledge to use his product at maximum output. He surrounded himself with those who complemented his weaknesses. This is what good CEOs do. One major TV network recruited a Campbell Soup executive to successfully develop the organization. I know plenty of TV pros who would not have fit the mold. While it is true that shareholders need a return for their investment, options are available. Andy Mooney has his Quiksilver critics; but, all too often I have personally seen brains recruited, opposition to change dictate outcomes, and other lesser qualified or business knowledge lacking individuals ready and quick to learn from the new boss . . . only to throw a wrench into the works by taking over the position. This can be pre-planned before the new boss arrives or it can be a newly conceived development. Regardless, truth be told, unless you are privy to closed doors, business decisions are often too unreliable to analyze from the outside. Sometimes, sacrifices benefit the whole . . . sometimes not.

That being said, I think Andy Mooney is not only a good candidate, but better than many others, especially with his business sense, global contacts, and passion for guitars and Fender to be specific. We can only hope those affected will be treated as well as possible and that the company thrives, grows, and continues its tradition with the customers. Best of luck, Andy.

PS Now that you have your choice of Fender axes, Andy, maybe you need space . . . so, I'm offering my help to take a couple of your guitars from your collection off your hands :D
