Only wood still attached to a tree breathes.

Actually, no, wood on a living tree is dead too. It's just the bark and the thin layer beneath it that consists of live cells.

They might as well claim toenail clippings are alive, too.

They too are dead, but unlike the wood, they did not get to spend a season being alive and transporting liquid - they were made to die, and to resist liquids.

It's not only dead, it's mummified.

Since you object to the word "breathing" for what wood does, I have to object to your use of the word "mummified". Dessicated to a small degree, but not mummified.

When we say wood "breathes" we don't mean drawing a breath. We mean it the same way we say that fabrics breathe - they transport moisture.
Wood has evolved to absorb and transport liquid through capillary action, and it continues to do so even after being cut up. If wood becomes too dry, it changes its shape and can bend and crack, because the pressures can be quite strong. Kiln-drying is a way to reach an acceptable level of moisture, not to remove all moisture.

Those of us who play classical instruments know how important it is to keep the moisture at an acceptable level - not too low, and not too high. Guitar hygrometers and humidifiers are a valid business.

+1 If you live in an area that requires heating in the winter...you absolutely should have both.

I bought a little temp/humidity (hygrometer) for less than $15...so I KNOW when it's too dry.

The room humidifier is about a 2 gallon capacity...cost less than $25...lasts 24 hours on high when air's dry.

My guitars...acoustic and electric...thank me endlessly. :D

I like the idea and design, but not the execution. The two pieces of the body do not match at all, with the joint where they're glued together very visible. Same with the one shown on the Fender site.
Guitars where the wood shows and that's the main feature need to be either single piece, mirrored, or at least wood matched so the joints don't call attention to it.

+1 - the more I look at the join, the more it bothers me. Possibly the one in the demo and on the product page are the same guitar and they're not all mismatched like that? Otherwise, it's not even a mismatch that works by some sort of pattern contrast. So yep I agree -- great concept but ...
