The newest Limited Edition "10 for '15" guitar just rolled out! See it in action:

It’s well known that the less finish there is encasing a guitar, the better the body can breathe, resonate and reverberate more freely. That’s why we gave the Limited Edition American Standard Stratocaster Oiled Ash a ’70s-style look with a thin oil finish on the body, allowing maximum tonal transference and organic projection. Its three single-coil Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups deliver warm and crystalline classic Stratocaster tone.

FIY I would put matching black plastic parts to complete the overall look.

How about a Telecaster and a bunch of basses as companions to the oiled ash Stratocaster?

I like the cream and black myself. I have it on my swirled FSR and although I have considered other combinations for when I change the scratch plate I keep coming back to black and cream.

Why am I changing a black scratch plate for a black scratch plate? Because it's a MIM and MIM black MIM scratch plates are horrible and seem to be made from recycled carrier bags. :x

Very nice. Something old . . . something new.

These unpainted guitars always remind me of the natural finish axes made in my high school's industrial arts shop back in the 60s. A lot of the guys used mahogany too as, in those days, it was a reasonable priced wood of quality (albeit heavy).
Sometimes old school has its place.

A white pickguard with black plastic parts would make for a killer Strat, just sayin'.

Why not making an HSS version?

Hey something else... is there only oil on the body or is it an oil finish combined with a thin wax layer
Hope, somebody can answer me that question. Thanx in advance

I like the idea and design, but not the execution. The two pieces of the body do not match at all, with the joint where they're glued together very visible. Same with the one shown on the Fender site.
Guitars where the wood shows and that's the main feature need to be either single piece, mirrored, or at least wood matched so the joints don't call attention to it.

+1

Definitely find a better example of the product to put on display. IMO, the one they chose would not have passed QC.

At least you can't accuse them of "bait and switch" tactics.

Only wood still attached to a tree breathes. They might as well claim toenail clippings are alive, too.
Guitar wood spends a great deal of time drying out in kilns to remove moisture content. It's not only dead, it's mummified.
Of course, wood will still expand and contract according to local humidity, but that is not "breathing". Like chicks, it's just "water weight".

Talk about mummified... that reminds me of a story I read about Stradivari... one researcher claimed that the wood that he used in his violins was from the time of the Egyptians so perhaps Fender is on to something. Not too sure how someone could prove that though??
