I found a two part interview done in 2001 with Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, Gerry McGee and also featuring Don Wilson's mother who was their manager that I thought you Ventures fans might like. A little bit of history.

The second part will start right after the first part finishes.

Enjoy:

I use to have the Hawaii Five O soundtrack on vinyl, speaking of the Ventures. I think it was my parent's record, originally. I got a bunch of stuff from them and my older siblings a long time ago. My one sister wouldn't give up her Beatles vinyl, though. Can't say I blamed her. :P

I had a number of Ventures LPs, but like so much stuff, I end up parting ways with them and then go through regrets after. I never thought that in years to come things would increase in value and become a collectors item. I was young and __ , well, not so smart! :D

Thanks for adding that Ventures interview F-Stop.

KJR Seattle was a major station for us westcoast kids on the Canadian side of the border, (especially with the great 60s jocks). American kids listened to Vancouver as well. The two cities had friendly rival radio competition, and even sponsored bus trips to invade each other's territory with fans. What a great treat to learn The Ventures got their break with KJR. Who knows? My transistor might have been tuned in then, because KJR usually was locked on. If Josie and the band had to choose between stations, they couldn't have made a better choice covering two countries with one big hit song. :D

I got a laugh when Nokie said he listened to just about every type of music, but can't play rap on the guitar.

Cheers!

We have a trio of local guys keepin that sound alive. Shade 13 opened for Dick Dale when he came through. Mitch the guitar player likes surf rock and spagetti westerns and somehow combines the two. Its like a mexican standoff that never runs out of bullets.
I hope this paste works...its Just a barroom song but you'll get the idea.

It's so nice to see that this type of music is still alive. They play well, and the lead done on a Les Paul - who would have thought :D . I sure am not knocking the Les Paul guitar, but one would, or at least I do, associate this type of music played on a Fender/Mosrite. Hey, I gotta say, it sounds nice on the LP.

Thanks for providing the video.

Cheers

I'm glad to see that the video was in some way special. I think we can all recall a radio station with fond memories from the past.

One can't help but laugh at Nokies comment. Playing Rap on a guitar, that's funny. At least it would make it possible for anyone to play the guitar. Just play one note and hang on :D . I had communicated with Nokie a number of years back, and he even offered to sell me one of his Mosrite Ventures guitars. There are times in one's life when you wish you had money - and that was one of them. If I was able to purchase it with his signature on it . . . I could probably pay off my mortgage.

I know what you mean. A lot of the toys and comic books I had as a kid growing up in the 70's are worth some money now. It seems like the only thing that doesn't increase in value (except for paying medical expenses, I guess) when it gets older is us. :P

On a visit to family in the Seattle burbs quite a few years back we had dinner at a restaurant in the Issaquah area. The room was lined with pictures of the band. I came to learn that the son of one of them owned the place. Anyone happen to know who and where?

I only know of Don Wilson's son Tim. He's in partnership with Wilson Guitars. I don't know if he owns a restaurant.
