BB has been an inspiration to me as a guitar player. I'm always playing along with him, and I was listening to Blues On The Bayou and thinking about how he was doing when the news came on this morning. I finally got to see him live about a year and a half ago.

I love this story from the New York Times:

“Growing up on the plantation there in Mississippi, I would work Monday through Saturday noon,” he said. “I’d go to town on Saturday afternoons, sit on the street corner, and I’d sing and play.

“I’d have me a hat or box or something in front of me. People that would request a gospel song would always be very polite to me, and they’d say: ‘Son, you’re mighty good. Keep it up. You’re going to be great one day.’ But they never put anything in the hat.

“But people that would ask me to sing a blues song would always tip me and maybe give me a beer. They always would do something of that kind. Sometimes I’d make 50 or 60 dollars one Saturday afternoon. Now you know why I’m a blues singer.”

Rest in Peace BB. You've been on the road long enough.

As we all will be joining BB someday, let celebrate his life, and all that he has given us within his short stay in the aspect of time

Those keeping up with BB knew it was just a matter of time until we said Goodbye to him...

I just hope that he was unaware of the Family squabbles and Legal wrangling going on around him recently and left in Peace !

I've seen BB many times, as recently as 2 years ago at JazzFest in New Orleans. Met him a couple times through the years.

He was a very gentle and gentile man who could pull emotion from you with his playing.

I pity those who won't now get to see him play.

We're losing these people at too fast a rate these days, so if there's someone you've always wanted to see, now is the time to make plans before it's too late !

Rest Easy Mr. King !! :) :)

And THANKS for the Music !!

cheers!

Thanks, for sharing Mr. King. You truly made a difference B.B., and you will for generations to come.

Very sad news.... We've lost a true "Blues Master" with BB King's passing...
Rest In Peace Mr. King :(

Respect to the King, may he rest in peace.

I was never a huge fan of the blues but I ran into a video of BB King giving a guitar lesson of sorts a few years back and the licks he played blew me away. I spent some time learning them and gained a new appreciation for his talents and the patience in his playing.

This doesn't does him justice but was my best attempt at the time, while I tried to match his example note for note, I learned that less really can be more:

So glad I saw him when he was in town last year. Despite diminished skills he was still the King. That concert will be a fond memory. Rest in Peace Mr. King. Your music will live on.

King by name, king by nature. This is a man that contributed so much to the music world. It would be a difficult task to count how many were inspired by him. He was a good man who truly loved people and performing for them. Because of the man that he was and the extremely talented man that he was, there will be very few that will be able to fill his shoes - now and in the future. This is a sad day indeed.

Almost as sad as seeing that B.B. King has died is seeing that Google already has added a section to the front page of their music store for B.B. King 1925-2015, in order to sell more albums. They couldn't even wait until he was buried before capitalizing on his death.

I am sad that B.B. King is no more, but he truly left a legacy. The blues clubs in his name will be around for many years to come, and people will still play B.B. King style blues and B.B. King songs.

Tonight, it's time to give my Fenders a rest and pick up a Gibson for a few blue notes.

While certainly most people associate BB King w/ his now famous Gibson ES 355 (aka Lucille), few know that he recorded most of his early work (and all of his early recordings w/ RPM Records) on a Fender Telecaster.

cheers!

RIP BB, I saw him live in Sun City West Arizona 7 years ago. What a showman, even at 82 (at the time) he still could play very well and his singing was as powerful as ever. He was the one back in the 1960's that turned me on to the beauty of the blues, and nobody played them prettier than BB. RIP

+1

We don't need another circus as with some of the Hendrix heirs.
