I picked up a Carvin X-100b this weekend. Found it for $200, gave it a good inspection and cleaning.

I've never heard an amp do this though. When I turn the reverb knob to "0", there's still reverb. It doesn't go all the way off. The adjustments are fine going up to 10, but it's still there at "0".

The amp didn't come with the footswitch which does allow you to turn the reverb on or off. Is it possible that I need the footswitch for it to function properly? I know I need it for the effects loop to work.

I know a can easily unplug it for recordings. But that's not very functional for a live setting. What could it be? Any ideas?

Other than that, the amp does some pretty cool sounds.

Yes... it requires the footswitch to turn the Reverb OFF.

You can accomplish the same thing by putting a shorted plug (RCA, ¼" Stereo or whatever plug it uses) into the footswitch jack.

cheers!

Ok cool. Thanks man! I appreciate the response.

Cool amp for $200. It's kinda like a 6l6 version of a Mesa Studio 22.

The older versions of this amp have an XLR type jack for the foot switch (channel switching, effects loop, and reverb) and for the line out .

I'm cool with it for now. I just wanted to make sure it didn't need service. I've never had an amp that did that.

I'm thinking about making my own footswitch for it. There are schematics on the net. Looks easy enough.

Here's a link for info on the amp: http://www.carvinamplifiers.com/product ... annel-head
The footswitch is only $49.
I have a Carvin V3m. It's a 3 channel and has a lot of features for not many bucks. Carvin makes some nice stuff. For $200 you did good.

Yes it does! I like the drive sounds when set on the 25% setting. I got the head version first, with 6L6s (looks just like yours), then I got the carpeted combo, which is almost the same amp, but with EL34s.

Yea, I couldn't resist at $200. Vegas Pawn shops man. Best in the world. I bought that cab for $65.

It's kinda hard to pinpoint what these amps sound like. The clean channel is amazing. It takes a while to get used to the EQs for the OD. That's when it reminds me of my old Mesa Studio. The GEQ is pretty sensitive to slight changes. But man! When you hit a sweet spot, it's freaking sweet!

How would you describe the differences between the 6L6 and EL 34 version? I'm always interested in that kind of comparison with same model amps.

Basically, the 6L6 favor the clean sound, and the EL34 for a grittier driven sound.

Well, it didn't take me long to find a suitable footswitch to mod. $20, and I have the switches, leds, and box. All I need is 4-conductor cable and female xlr connector.

The only other footswitches I could find for this amp were $80. I'll be able to make mine for about $35.

I think this is the footswitch for your amp:
http://www.carvinamplifiers.com/collect ... footswitch

$49 new from Carvin

According to what I read, that one is for the reissue versions. From what I understand, the one I need is a FS-36, 3-button switch.

Somewhere I read that you can tell by the logos and model descriptions on the amps. The carvin logo that has the Coca Cola style font are the older versions and say "Classic" on the amp. The reissues have a font like my cab, and say X-100B on the amp. The older versions use the FS36.
