OK, I went to see a concert last Thursday night, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck and Tyler Bryant. It was a great show, and a perfect night. The show as at an outdoor amphitheater and the weather was text book perfect. I had good seats stage right, not as good as the Robert Cray concert but still close.

First Tyler Bryant, I love this guy. I have been listening to him for two years and he was the reason I bought the ticket. He opened the show and I wish he could have played longer. I got to meet him after his set, got pics and autographs. :)

Jeff Beck was incredible. I can’t say anything about him that has not already been said. I am amazed at the sounds he gets out of his guitar with only his fingers! He never used a pick; do any of you play electric without a pick? I don’t mean just strumming, I mean ripping it up.

ZZ Top was entertaining as usual. They opened with “Got Me Under Pressure”, my favorite song by them. They did not play “TV dinners”, I would have liked to have heard that, but they played very other song that they are known for. Billy Gibbons remarked that they have been touring for over 40 years, 40 years! I was in my second year of High School when La Grange came out, if you would have told me then I would be going to a ZZ top concert 40 years later…well you know! These guys really know how to whip up a crowd! When Beck was playing the people were a little subdued, I was thinking to myself concerts just aren’t what they used to be! But when ZZ came out people went nuts.

Which brings me to my final thought, I had pretty good seats, and they weren’t cheap. Sitting in the crowd looking around, it was a little sad at first. I have never seen so many old people and people in wheel chairs, scooters, and walkers at a concert. My wife remarked about the two older women in front of us that 30-40 years ago they would have been on their boyfriend’s shoulders flashing their boobs at the band! There just weren’t any young people, but later I figured out that the place was full of young people, I wasn’t seeing them at first because they were all in the cheap seats in the back! Time sure has changed, these kids where going to concerts to see bands that their grandparents listened to, if I would have had to listen to my grandparents music I would have puked!

I posted some pics below; I could not get the good camera in and had to use a cell phone camera so they aren’t that good.

Very Cool !!

Great pics !

Would love to see Jeff Beck live !

IMHO, the most innovative guitarist of my lifetime. Musically, I can't even begin to imagine the sh*t that goes on inside his head !

ZZ Top is always a GREAT Show !! Hard to imagine that BIG sound coming from just 3 players !

I first saw ZZ Top back in '74 at the UT Memorial Stadium in Austin. Was visiting my sister and her boyfriend (now husband of 35 years) who both went to school there and got the tix. Her BF supplemented his income as a 'pharmaceutical' salesman, so you can imagine what a time we had !

The show featured ZZ Top, Santana, Joe Cocker and Bad Company (w/ Jimmy Page - YES... Jimmy Page on Lead Guitar !!). It was one of the best shows I've ever seen... and I've seen a LOT of shows !!

After all these years, I've still got the flyer and my ticket stub !

Wow Lightnin MN! Cool story and a epic concert! The first concert I went to was REO Speedwagon at Roberts Stadium in Evansville IN.

My ticket was eight bucks too, :) Yes, I knew a few 'pharmaceutical' salesmen back in the day myself!

I once had a last minute chance to see ZZ Top for free--but I had an incredible headache and just needed to go home, close my eyes & sleep

Glad you enjoyed it.

REO would be a terrific show... never had the chance to see them :(

Can you believe $8 ??

At the show in Austin, attendance was estimated at 30,000, but ended up at 90,000 !!

I didn't get to Woodstock, but it must have felt like this !

cheers!
