I am starting to think there is some confusion here as to what a locking tremolo is.
As already suggested the ball end of the string is cut off and end of the string is locked into place by a grub screw.

http://www2.fender.com/support/articles ... g-tremolo/ :D

I guess I just have a weird one that locks at the saddle.

Yeah that is quite possible yours locks at the saddle , in fact I think the true Floyd Rose does clamp at the saddle but don' t you still have to remove the end to fit the string?
Unless you have an old guitar with system 3?
:D

I already have been there and they don't carry my specific string but thanks. Very close but no cigar. They look like much older strings and assembled in Mexico instead of U.S.

Try calling them - they can get them. They supply a lot of 'name' techs
and performers too.

I tried calling them and they are closed for the weekend (Eastern time). On their web site they have single strings but a very limited selection but I will try them next week. They have one of my bullets that I am after (.042) super bullet but the image clearly shows Assembled in Mexico of U.S. and German (Bullet ends) materials and looks like old string with old packaging.

I just got off the phone with juststrings.com and they informed me that they do *not* carry Fender Bullets by the single string and that Fender outsources their strings to D'Addario. So nobody sells Fender Bullets by the string. This is not acceptable and not green (environmental) (I live in Oregon and had to get that in there). I have whole sets of strings and money being completely wasted because they are missing just one string.

Can you imagine the nightmare of being a retailer and having to stock single strings of every brand and stay in business? Or, being a manufacturer and having to package single strings and ship them instead of sets, and trying to stay in business?

I can imagine it quite well. For example, there is a retailer in the U.S. called Batteries Plus and they sell well over 45,000 different batteries, light bulbs and accessories.

Not even close with no Cuban cigar?

So I assume you won't be buying into my single string online retail franchise concept. .

I'm in my sixties and played guitar since I was 15. Broke maybe 5 strings in all that time. Maybe you should just learn how to tune a guitar.

That would be fine, except I use string brands that already come in singles. And, as stated, for a locking bridge, you don't need ends on the strings, so ball or bullet, both can be cut off as the strings clamp in the saddle, or if you can leave the ends on, once clamped in the saddles, the ends are irrelevant. For a Floyd Rose type bridge, you have to cut the ends off anyway.
