I came across an old Antiques Roadshow episode that took place in Santa Clara, CA. About half way through the show, the camera focused on a blonde Tele with case and amp. It was a '53 in awesome condition. The case was original, but over time and humidity, it was starting to fall apart at the seems. The amp was a fender Deluxe. Both the Tele and amp look liked it just came out of the box. It even had the bridge cover attached, ash tray as they called it. Those things either got thrown out or lost. The Tele was appraised at $25,000 and the combined value was $30,000. If only I still had my '57. If you locate the Santa Clara episodes, its hour #2.

Cheers

Edit: I found the segment on the Tele.

Yeah that episode was on earlier this week, it was quite a lovely specimen for a 53 and according to him his mother gave guitar lessons on it, so it did get use and was taken care of because the almost $300 dollars it cost back then was considerable a lot of money at the time

I didn't know that it was a recent episode. I stream PBS on an Apple TV. Usually they are older shows. I haven't had cable TV for years. I remember when I bought my first Fender. It was a blonde '57. I remember saving for it, and at the time it was more than a month's wages. It's nice to see that she looked after it so well. If only I had the money, I would search him out and make an offer for the package. Its probably rare that one can be found in such great condition.

Wow, I missed that and I like to watch that show. Well, they usually repeat the hell of it, so I'll probably catch it sooner or later on TV. That's my favorite segments with the various musical instruments. I've seen someone on there with and old P Bass one time. I think a '63. That would be sweet to have, I think. 8)

Holy Crap! $25,000 for a '53 Tele.

That works out to approximately $1.10 a day over 62 years.

I think my parents bought the home I lived in from the age of 6 until 19 in Florida for $25,000. But that was in 1978. They sold it in 1999 for somewhere around $175,000, I think. I don't think you'll get a house for $25,000 anymore, at least one that's ready to live in.

If you had the money, would you buy one?

Me.. ??

NOPE !!

I'd have to have Crazy-Silly money before I'd buy such a rare/vintage guitar. Even then, it'd only be an investment.

cheers!

Yeah, I'm not sure if I would or not, either. I'd want to play it, but I'd certainly sure as hell not play it outside the house.
