Hospice is end of life care, as sad as it seems, that is the truth. Of course he may not pass for months or years but Hospice care is not hospital care as far as I know.

We all gotta die, and I wish for BB King the same thing I wish for myself. If I gotta go I want it to be quick and easy, and that is what I wish for Mr Riley B King as well.

I saw BB King live in Sun City West Arizona 7 or 8 years ago. He was 82 years old at the time. He played very very well, nothing flashy, but every note right on & in the right place, His singing voice was very powerful, very good. He told stories about half the time he was on stage, and it was fun to hear them, and interesting to listen to. A master showman, some of the sweetest blues tones of all the blues guys out there. The show was one of the better ones I have ever attended.

Sorry to hear that !

A Great Showman !

I had the pleasure of meeting BB many years ago and saw him again last year at JazzFest.

To recount those events, as I posted last year:

Waaay back in '79, fresh out of the Navy, I was a lowly Restaurant Mgr. in a Holiday Inn Hotel (paying my way through my MBA). We closed after Lunch (±2 PM) for 4 hrs. until Dinner. During that time, I usually setup shop in a far booth to observe the staff and do my paperwork.

We were the closest hotel to Orchestra Hall, so many of the Players booked there would stay with us.

B.B. King was to appear, but I was too late to get Tix :(

Anyway, @ 2:15, B.B. appeared at our entrance wearing an Ice Cream White Double-Breasted suit, accompanied by his Band/Entourage.

I went to our entrance, a closed gate, opened it and B.B. said: "Can we get Lunch..??"

I said:" Absolutely Mr. King!!... come right in..."

He said: "How you know my name..??"

I replied: " Everybody knows the Blues Boy.. !! "

B.B. rolled his head back and shouted: " Owwwww...!!!"

I got everyone to their tables, had a waiter come over, and took their orders.

He asked me:" Are you coming to the Show tonight..??"

"No" I said... "I was too late to get Tix..."

He replied: "Well... you got 'em now !!..."

2 Backstage Passes... the show was terrific... and we got to go to the after-party !

Got to meet him again last year at Jazzfest in New Orleans, and he remembered me from 33 years before saying: " You're the guy who gave us lunch right..?? " Mrs. LMN was thrilled!!

Yea... he's lost a step or two through the years. But I suspect they'll have to pry 'Lucille' from his hands on his Deathbed.

They just ain't makin' em like that anymore !!

cheers!

I just read about it this morning on Facebook and as someone who works in the nursing business PT ( LPN ), Hospice Care is indeed about caring for those who are on their way out. I know this is sad , but he requested to be at home and not in a hospital . All we can do now, is say some prayers for him and hope for the best. He has given all of us so many years of enjoyment with both his guitar playing and his wonderful singing. He is one of a kind who will never be duplicated.

Was reading about this yesterday (in the UK). I hope the stories of abuse are false. His daughter (I think) shared a photo which I wasn't sure was entirely appropriate. Such a sad situation.
Feel blessed to have been able to see him live on a few occasions.
What a legend.
I keep cranking There Is Always One More Time.

I never had the pleasure of seeing him live (other than videos of course), however like so many, B.B. King has had a profound influence on my own music. While I'm sad to hear he is in hospice care and will certainly mourn his loss when his time comes, I think it's safe to say that considering the shear number of guitar players he's influenced, he will live on...you can hear a little B.B. in many of us.

B.B. King was blessed to be able to spend most of his long life doing what he loved...playing guitar and making music. May we all be so lucky.

B.B.

You are one of a kind and a great one at that. Thanks.

In the end, I leave you with the showbiz statement that you lived by:
"Always leave them wanting more . . ."

I consider 'Live at the Cook County Jail' one of the best live albums I've ever heard !

Younger people may not appreciate the state of the prison system in America when this album came out. There had been lockdowns in most Federal Penitentiaries, and full-scale riots at Attica & Oklahoma State Prison. Unrest was just lying below the surface, like Magma ready to explode.

Cook County Sheriff, Richard J. Elrod, was afraid that BBs presence would incite the population, so restricted him to performing behind two lines of Corrections Officers, in full riot gear, to keep the peace.

BB refused, saying that if he couldn't perform directly in front of the inmates, he was cancelling the show. Elrod conceded, and BB and his band performed a terrific show to the delight of the inmates without a single incident.

cheers!

BB King was also the only guest to ever be booked on Dick Clark's American Bandstand who actually performed live.

Gotta respect that.

+1 Agreed.
I've had this in my vinyl collection since it was released. It's now digitized because this fantastic record has been under the stylus many, many times.

I've seen him live--several years ago I saw him on two different tours.

Those two concerts remain in my personal top 5--they were great shows.

So this is sad news to me, but even more to his loved ones.

What a great experience. I never had a chance to meet BB, but I was lucky enough to see/hear him play live more than once. A great musician.
