Okay, I was called a "Fender Snob" today (by a Gibson player). Anyone ever been called that or something similar? Not exactly sure what that means, but it made me laugh. The only other company I am loyal to is Electro-Harmonix. I think they misunderstand my pride in owning Fender products for arrogance. Now im annoyed.

I own Fender & Gibson guitars--I own other brands.
I have differing tastes, and like to have different guitars and gear.
There's no room for snobbery in music--it is art, and the true artist--whether a professional or amateur, whether superstar or basement/garage star or wannabe owes it to him/herself to explore many options. It's okay to have one strong preference, but name calling isn't helpful.

Other companies have good stuff--and not just the other ones that Fender owns or has associations with. So I would think a Fender snob would be along the lines of someone who thinks something like, "If it's not Fender, it's crap." Which, no matter how much you love Fender, is just not true.

Of course there are people who would be the opposite as well--same thing to them.

As musicians we ought to take advantage of the various companies putting out good stuff--in the past, now, and the ones who'll do it in the future.

If you ever get that comment again, just tell him,"WELL, YOU CAN'T SPELL GIBSON WITHOUT THE LETTERS S-N-O-B."

I wouldn't call someone a snob when their instrument was likely much less than theirs. I really don't try to make brand comparisons usually though. I try to respect guitar players in general.

I can see calling somebody a brand snob if his/her loyalty to that brand excludes any possiblility that another brands product has a place in the world. There is no snob in diversity

We all have our preferences in brands and loyalty to them.

Some folks like Fenders, others Gibsons, and others go for Jacksons or Ibanez. Different guitars for different tastes, styles and sounds of music.

No reason to be called a snob about it.

Maybe the guy is a Gibson snob whos had some run ins with Fender owners before who ranted about the "pay for a name" reputation we sometimes give Gibsons. I myself am open to other brands, anything that can get the tone or sound or whatever I'm looking for is okay for me.

A lot of the people here are Fender snobs, but it is a Fender forum so be it. I like other basses out there other than Fender, owned a bunch. My favorite bass is my main bass - my '87, but I've been on stage and in the studio with diff't basses other than Fender. The last recording I did was done with my BTB. Fender is not the end all be all, but it gets you pretty close for the bang for the buck factor  but most of you know that :)

I see a lot of snobbery here, and at the Gibson forum. People have a psychological need to make whatever they own the best.

Really, the Epiphone forum is the most neutral, though we're forced to talk about Epiphone guitars almost exclusively.

I happen to have a Fender, a Gibson, a Squier, and an Epiphone.
