Silver Face Twin for shimmering clean sparkle

Hot Rod Deluxe for deep round clean tone.

I bet for most of us... if we could suddenly get back every piece of musical gear we ever owned; we could open a nice music store!

Fender Sidekick 30 (My first amp when I got my first bass guitar. Pretty useless other than practice.)

Roland 15 watt combo (Don't remember the model, other than it was black with orange labeling and logo. Just another practice amp I impulse bought and use to take it to high school to practice in music class sometimes.)

Ampeg B-115 combo (Some cheesy 120 watt SS combo with a 15" speaker from the 70's. I was a noob with barely a year on bass when I got that. It was OK until my guitar playing friend got a Peavey Special 130 combo amp. Christ, that thing was loud and he wasn't afraid of the volume knob.)

Peavey Databass 450 watt combo. (Yes, vengeance was mine! :P That amp was loud as hell and could finally compete with the Special 130. My first guitar slayer amp. :P Unfortunately, I sold it to buy some dumb crap and always regretted doing so. It had your typical Peavey tone, but it had serious balls.)

Peavey Mark IV 300 watt half stack with 15" cab (Something I got a good deal on even though I had the Databass. Pretty decent rig, though. I used it as back up, especially when I fried the speaker in the Databass and sometimes ran both of those amps together for a stereo rig. I sold it to by a bass later on, but still had the Databass for a few more years.)

Fender BXR300C 300 watt combo (I really loved the sound of this amp, that's why I bought it and it replaced the Databass, which I had for awhile with it. It was great with a new friend of mine who was a guitarist and wasn't a volume hog. I know, that's rare as rocking horse poop. :P The problem came into being when we went our separate ways for awhile and I started playing in a way louder band. Even with the 15" ext cab I had to get with the amp, it was difficult. So that amp had to go and I got my second bass stack.)

Ampeg SVT 3 Pro 450 watt head (This amp had a killer tone, but the truth be told, it struggled in the volume department from time to time, depending on who I played with. Maybe better cabs might have helped. To me, the Peavey Mark IV head had more balls to it. It didn't have the tone, but you could hear it better. I found this out when one time in a fully equipped rehearsal place that had one that I had to use when the Ampeg's transformer melted down there. Yes, the stink of a dead amp. :P Worse off, I was too piss poor to have it fixed for a long time and had nothing. It was a bad time in my life too, especially with playing music.)

Peavey Standard head (A 130 watt guitar head from the early 70's, I believe. It was an old Peavey model with the huge silver knobs instead of the black ones. I got this because it was only $100 and it was all I could afford at the time. Pretty shite for bass, but better than nothing. Still dark times ahead until I was finally able to get the Ampeg fixed. Back then, they didn't have the cheap amps like they do today. Nothing was made in China yet and these all were made in the US. Things were a lot more expensive, especially of you were skint to begin with. Maybe I could have found other things around, but I wasn't lucky at the time. Eventually I was able to get the Ampeg back, but it still acted wonky from time to time. After that, the Standard was used for a make shift PA.)

Peavey Basic 60 (50 watt combo that my musician/solo artist girlfriend had that I used when I left Florida to move to Rhode Island to be with her. I came up here with absolutely nothing, including any gear I had, due to certain events in my life in which I pretty much walked away from everything and started over. This it what I had to use because I had nothing else at the time and we still have it. It's right in the office where I'm typing now. It's OK, just some typical Peavey bass combo. I had to use house backline for any gigs we did for a few years until we were more financially situated and started getting better gear.

Fender 1982 Super Champ (18 watt tube amp designed by Paul Rivera of Rivera amps and loaded with a 150 watt EV Force 10 speaker. Loud amp for when I play guitar and you can play bass through it, too. This amp was originally my girlfriend's step dad's amp, but gave it to us. Nice amp and in near mint condition, too. Never gigged out and always in the house. May use it live in the future, but not sure since these are worth some money. I've seen ones in far worse shape go for over $1000.)

Fender Rumble 350 combo (350 watt combo with 2x10" speakers. Got this amp in January of 2012 after getting tired of cheesy amps and felt it was time to get a really decent amp, which this one is. I still have it, even though I have the Orange. It's a really nice amp and served me well.)

Orange Terror Bass 1000 with Carvin 18" speaker cab. (1000 watts of bass! Love this amp. 8)

Aside from the Yamaha practice amp i had when I first started playing, I still own the rest of my amps.
I have only purchased 3 amps in my guitar playing life.

Fender Ultimate Chorus - solid state combo, 2x12, 65w per channel
Traynor YCV40WR - Tube combo, 1x12, 40w
1971 Univox 1010 system (U1011 head, U2080 cab) Tube, 8x10 cab, 105w

I am not a huge tone seeker. I can find a tone I like with most gear.
I pretty much have my bases covered with gear...for now!

Early years: I started with an Ampeg Jet and then at some point threw an Ampeg B-12 into the mix (guitar not bass). Then I got a Baldwin "Exterminator" (you can still find references on line). VERY loud, but early solid state so the sound quality was pretty bad. Then it blew out right in the middle of a gig, so I had to resort to my backup.

That was a Bassman 50 head and 2 X 12" cab that I was using for bass in a Jazz trio side project I was in. This was 1970 and I continued to use the Bassman combo for the next 5 years until I left music for a "real" job. I sure wish I had that back!

Then in 1986, my wife encouraged me to start playing again, so I got a little Champ to go with my long closeted guitar. I've had that ever since ... beat to death and back 10 times over by now but it still works.

Since then, I have a Fender Super 210 (60W) for louder gigs and an Ibanez TSA30 and custom 1 X 12" for smaller gigs. I've pretty much always stuck with relatively low wattage American tube sound except for the Baldwin.

Favorites amps from the past for me were....
-Music Man 115 RP... 100 watts with the half power switch to run at 50 wattts... It was a hybrid... tube powered with the solid state preamp... too two EL34's. my main amp for about 16 years. Loud as hell... talk about that classic Fender "Spank" when you opened it up.

-Ampeg VT40... good sound.... deep mid tone with a sweet high end... but a bear to gig with.

these two in particular were my favorites from my tube amp days...
Now I'm running an MIII... it rivals the two amps I've mentioned.. a killer SS amp... I'm really enjoying it.

My first guitar amp was a 20w 1/10 that I used from '62 to '65, then my Fender Super Reverb. I picked up a Vox Wesminster cab during this time and put an 18" speaker in for some low end. When I started playing bass guitar full time in late '68 I got a 200w Marshall bass head and 2 -200w bass cabinets my super stack. All of those are gone now but my new rig sounds pretty big, actually bigger than I need but that is a subject for another thread lol.

Speaking of Vox 18"s, North Coast Music makes a licensed copy of a Foundation cab, but loaded with an 800 watt speaker. I wanted to get that, but I couldn't afford it at this time. I think it would look cool paired with my Orange Terror Bass head.

A Watkins Westminster all valve 5 watt
A Watkins Dominator all valve 17.5 watts
A Selmer Treble n Bass 50....50 watt head (again valve) with a no name 2 x 12 cab
A Fender blonde Bassman top with a custom built 4 x 12 cab with goodmans audium 61 bass speakers
A Laney 30 watt amp (load of crap)
A Peavey 100 watt solid state , monitor style amp (angled)
A McGregor 100 watt powered monitor
A Peavey 35 watt solid state (loud as hell and was given to me )
A Carlsbro 100 watt PA amp (valve) ...also given to me

The Westminster was one of the amps the Beatles started out with, but TBH, it was all hiss and crap tone...The Dominator was a superb piece of kit , as was both the Selmer and the Fender Bassman . (The Fender JUST had the edge , but it was really close tone wise ( Selmer blatently copied the Fender amp circuits)

I had an old 70's Ampeg VT22, 100watt, 2x12, solid tube amp for years. It was on wheels and was still a boat anchor to haul around. But the sound was incredible! Then again, the sound could get so loud, so viciously loud, it would give you brain damage!
Tragically, the amp sparked, smoked, and caught fire, and that was the end of it...

I had an early 90's Fender Super 60 (red knob), 60 watt, 1x12, solid tube amp that was awesome. Nice punchy sound out of it. I am still kicking myself for selling it! What the %*#& was I thinking? :x

(1) My first was a 1970's Gibson G20 solid state amp that had been found by a friend's dad in a mobile home he'd repossessed (how's that for a redneck job? "Mobile Home Repo Man" He made a lot of money doing it, though...). It went through several of the boys in the family (four of the six sons played), was stripped of its black Tolex somewhere along the way...and then I bought it from son #5 for $25 and a six pack of beer. It has one of the coolest sounding vibrato/tremolo/whatever circuits ever. I still own that one.

(2) A 1972 silverface Fender Bassman Ten...the only amp I've ever sold that I would like to have back...I used it for guitar, harp, bass, keyboards, and even a makeshift PA system. Sold during the Great Musical Instrument Mortgage Payment Massacre of 1994-1996...the only thing I don't miss about it is the weight.

(3) 197? Silverface Fender Twin Reverb w/master volume volume. Bought it, re-tubed it, hated it, sold it. All in six months.

(4) 197? Silverface Fender Champ. Liked it (even though it was way underpowered for any band applications). Sold during the Great Musical Instrument Mortgage Payment Massacre of 1994-1996.

(5) 1992 Fender '63-reissue Vibroverb amp...best amp I've ever owned, hands down. Harp, guitar, steel guitar guitar...I still own this one, too.

(6) Legendary Pignose...I still own that one, too...

With the sole exception of the Tremolux, I've owned (or own) at least one example of every blackface Fender amp that Leo made to include those that eventually received the silverface cosmetics for the 1968 model year. Add to that a tweed 5F6-A Bassman, a Sunn Scepter, a Vox Super Beatle, a Standel Imperial 10, and a Marshall Super Lead Plexi (all now distant memories). My current inventory numbers 15 Fenders, including a DRRI, a TRRI, and a silverface Bassman 135.
