Pretty cool. 8) As much as I like a good P Bass or Tele, I'm especially keen on the oddball models Fender as come out with.

Interesting that they mentioned that there was a Katana Bass but they didn't mention that there was a Performer Bass. Actually, the Bass design inspired the guitar. Performer Bass started out as the Elite version of the Jazz bass, but was renamed when the design got too radical. I bought my Performer Bass new in 1986 and it is a cool instrument but most people don't like the headstock.

The Performers (Bass & guitar versions) were cool--and if I'd had the means at the time to buy the used ones I've seen--I just might have done that.

I have a somewhat rare Fender, that’s now causing me a nightmare, because I’m so in love with her and can’t get parts. She’s a MIJ Squire “short bus” guitar, that I think might me more rare than that were mentioned in an attempt to crack the metal market in the 80’s. Shape wise, it was a normal Strat, but with a single humbucker. But overall it took weird scale from Gibson (scale, aka “the short bus”), with Gibson shorter scale length and narrower Gibson string spacing at the bridge. Made 85-86 (according to records, but pretty sure it was only 85). It might make a top 20, maybe, total maybe, a few thousand were built, but not top 5 or even close.

I saw some nice pictures of one show up here https://reverb.com/item/330219-85-squier-by-fender-stratocaster-strat-rare-1-humbucker-model-made-in-japan-all-original-w-hard-case, in way better condition than mine. But, even they didn't realize how rare or weird it was (scale on neck and bridge). The label "Squier" and rare (unwanted configuration) let them sell it cheap IMHO. But what do I know, maybe it was quickly discontinued and not many made because it's just not something anyone would want? I don't know... But I love mine.

Just posted a call for help in the Squire section of the forum here.

That's actually a pretty cool guitar you have there. Somehow, it does look vaguely familiar to me, like I might have seen one back in the day. I like the simplicity of it.
