"Love Hurts" by the Everly Brothers vs. Nazareth's version...I prefer Nazareth, personally.

"Hurt" by Reznor/NIN vs. Johnny Cash...I prefer John R. Cash's version.

"Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden vs. Johnny Cash...again, I prefer Cash's.

"Can't You See" by Marshall Tucker Band vs. Waylon Jennings...I prefer Waylon's.

Big Mama Thorton whips Elvis (hardily) on "Hound Dog"...he sounds like a child beside that Woman (with a Capital "W").

ZZ Top beats Elvis again on their live version of "Teddy Bear" (from the 1999 "XXX" album)...

Joe Cocker beats the Beatles on both "With a Little Help From My Friends" and "She Came In Through the Bathroom WIndow."

How about Sid Vicious's cover of 'My Way' which was an adaptation of a song 'comme d'habitude' popularized by Claude Francois. Paul Anka penned 'My Way' for Frank Sinatra and later released his own version. I challenge anyone to find two more dissimilar versions than Frank Sinatra vs. Sid Vicious on 'My Way'.

I think I already have covered that with "When the Levee Breaks", where the Led Zeppelin version is nothing like the original Kansas Joe McCoy & Memphis Minnie version.

But if that's not good enough, well:

All very well said. EC certainly takes the best Little Wing! I thought for Years Frank Marino played All along the watchtower best but wrong... Jimi did. And Voo Doo Chile. I like EC's but SRV did it best!

"I Just Want to Make Love to You" is a 1954 blues song written by Willie Dixon
My favorite version is by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Well Rollie; perhaps you haven't heard this version by Cold Blood with the sensational Lydia Spence. Funk my blues baby!

Great postings from all, giving us some material that might even introduce little known or new versions while soaking up the old ones.

But, dang lomitus ... you said "dang". I say, "dang" all the dang time dang it! LOL.

You're right, lomitus. Elvis can hold his own.

I've always loved the late Jan Ödner's solo on this:

+1 on Jan J . . . Thanx for that.

Peter Green's Black Magic Woman with Fleetwood Mac was OK, but Carlos Santana took it to another level and beyond. Many people don't even know Green wrote it and recorded it with Fleetwood Mac first.

As previously referenced.....I'm not a big fan of Metallica nor the metal genre for the most part, but 'Turn the Page' rivals that of Seger...don't know which I prefer???

For the Manic Depression covers, Al DiMeola & Jan Hammer did an amazing version of that tune.

Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison and covered by Van Halen. Will take Van Halen's version.

The original: Bob Dylan "All Along The Watchtower"

The best ever cover: Jimi Hendrix's incredible version of "All Along The Watchtower"

Hands down, Jimi transformed Dylan's original into a classic that, even Dylan himself has said it was better!

Uh Oh. Run for cover. Them's dangerous words, partner. (Just kiddin' fenderfan).

Good thing Roy and Bill Dees wrote the song for Eddie and the boys.

Van Halen does a great job, however, with most everything they did/do. IMO

This one with Roy and his celebrity friends, Fenders included, is not too shabby either.
