I first heard that song on AFRTS when I was serving my first tour in Vietnam. It was a party-hooch favorite. Great tune!

RIP, Mr. Sledge.

Sad news for sure. R.I.P. Percy Sledge.
The band I'm currently in plays his song at every gig. It's still a crowd pleaser even today.

Sorry to hear this. RIP Percy Sledge. What's strange to me is I thought he died many years ago. I must have been thinking of someone else that's a similar artist from the 60's era.

Incidentally, Cameron Lewis and Andrew Wright benefitted when Percy gave them the rights to his signature song. He, apparently, never received royalties, never sued, and accepted that because of his youth. It was as simple as being a tragic mistake.

Percy remained a man of character. He will be missed, but his talent lives on.
