http://www.fender.co.jp/ seems to work fine.

Correction: It appears that Fender Japan is gone.

Not just the web site, but Fender Japan. The links now go to the international FMIC, without any of the Fender Japan special gear.

See this post on /. japan for details.

Art, the poster of that article seems to be saying Fender Japan isn't operating, thanks again for posting.

From what I can tell, it does appear to be part of the restructioning, downscaling and consolidation. Fender has killed their China "Modern Player" line, is downplaying the Squier brand and making it unavailable in many markets, and now they are nixing the CIJ too.
What's left is basically MIM and USA models.

Combined with the news that Bono (a board member of Fender) has invested a boatload of money with the venture capitalist company that basically owns Fender (TPG Growth, a subset of TPG Capital), and just now also accepted an advisory position with TPG Growth, my guess might be that Fender is divesting in preparation for being sold.

Yes, that is what I was getting at - the former Fender Japan stuff seems to be gone. This is a shame as they had some cool designs, though it did seem a bit weird effectively having two Fenders. Streamlining Fender will always be a good thing - quality over quantity, even for the entry level stuff.

Fender was always going to be sold by the PE firms - they tried not long ago but the conditions where right.

Re. Bono in an advisory position and investing money (if this is true): it feels like it they are hanging on to Fender rather than selling (for the moment) - these don't sound like the actions of a company that wants to sell Fender in the short term.

........but who knows - I am sitting in my office not the TPG boardroom.

My greatest fear in all of this is maintaining quality.

Yes, TPG can get cash.

As with many things, advisers often invest money to keep them honest - have some skin in the game. Another reason that longer term activity seems likely.

Interesting to see what happens.

Does this mean the MIJ Fenders will become more valuable?

I seem to have memory of it being said that Squiers were now going to be build in Mexico. If you go into the 'search' box, you can link to that website.

Morphing from socialist protestor to venture capitalist requires the acquisition of extraordinary wealth and the power to have a public broadcasting network squash the fact that one of your ancestors was a slave owner.

I won't hold anyone responsible for their ancestors. Nobody gets to choose them. We are only responsible for ourselves and our children, which we do get a choice in having.
