Nick, going to see a specialist sounds good. Keep us in the loop.

That's wierd. Would've thought it would be the right hand that would be susceptible to overuse......that is.......unless you're left handed.
Get a $@!& up wrist splint and you'll be back in action in no time.

Well, I got the news I didn't want today :( Osteoporosis AND osteoarthritis. I'm off to a specialist next month to see what course of action they can take in terms of alleviating the symptoms.

That's tough, Nick. I manage to control osteoarthritis pain in my legs/knees, and I know how painful it is, but I have more good days than bad, and that goes for my hands which are not severe like you have; although, I have a delinquent tendon that will lock a finger if I overwork it. I write it off to age.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. Osteoporosis is different.

Keep the faith, Nick.

Faith is definitely being kept :) I've lived with arthritis in my knees since I was 17 (now 32) so know how I can control it to some degree. THANKFULLY the grip with the thumb when playing doesn't induce the severe pain like opening a jar does, so I think with careful pain management, and heat/cold therapy, I can muster on :)

Thing is, for 95% of the time it's no bother, it's only actions like opening a jar of coffee, holding a mug whilst washing it. I am a righty, so it is a little odd that my left is giving me grief. That said, the doc was asking about any previous injury to it, and a major dislocation he reckons (that happened when I was a kid) could easily have slackened the supporting ligaments and lead to the damage.

At least they didn't offer to lop it of with bolt croppers  I like to maintain a sense of humour and lighten the mood, despite how debilitating I know it could be in a few years time. It is the British way. :)

Sure you can. It didn't stop Keith Richards.
