headstock, the blackout has a bolt-on maple neck, a very important distinction. An ebony finger board is a gift worth receiving. I still like the contrast :D 8)

Nah. The thin white outline looks great, especially since it has approximately the same visual "weight" as the frets.

Calling it "blackout" seems just wrong, when it's only partial black. A blackout means you take extra care to get it all dark, because one piece standing out as bright is not helpful.

Black headstock, black nut, black screws, black strap locks, 1-ply black pickguard, darker fret markers - these are all things Fenders already make. But not on this guitar, which is supposed to be "blackout"?
(I'm sure they could do a black jack, bridge, tuners and whammy bar too - 3rd parties do, but the above are things they already do.)

Call it "black on black", "ebony black" or any of a number of different things. But not "blackout", because a few of us are old enough or have military experience enough to remember blackouts. This just tells us that Fender now embraces doing things half-arsed.

+1

Blackout=all-black guitar with a hot humbucker in the bridge and a double locking whammy with locking nut and tuners.

For the Blackout American Standard Fender opted not incorporating those features because they wanted to make something different rather than releasing a 2nd generation "None More Black".

If you really want an all-black Strat with an HSS configuration and a Mini Floyd locking tremolo system buy a used None More Black American Deluxe in mint condition from eBay.

Art, come now little Brother. Maple neck's should stick out if you like them so what, that has nothing to do with long ears and a tail and a half. :P

My concern wasn't what looks great, but living up to its name.
The Jim Root strat is, by the way, far more black than this one is, but on that one, the 3-ply black-white-black pickguard, white nut and maple headstock is okay, because it doesn't pretend to be blacked out.

I agree. I would love to see this axe with a black neck and all-black parts..

I also didn't like the 70's hardtail- essentially a hard-tailed American Special... Nothing else even looked 70's about it
