INTRODUCING THE LIMITED EDITION AMERICAN STANDARD BLACKOUT STRATOCASTER

Simple and elegant, this a great American Standard Stratocaster cloaked in an all-black finish complemented by a:
- black pickguard,
- black control knobs
- black pickup covers and—in a rare touch for a Fender instrument—a smooth-playing ebony fingerboard.

Its Mystic Black Metallic finish lends an air of noir-ish sophistication, complemented by fleeting hints of sparkle. Its three single-coil Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups deliver warm and crystalline classic Stratocaster tone.

I gotta ask - Why not paint the headstock black too? :?
Doesn't it look weird, with just a disembodied headstock floating around on a dark stage?
Do that, and make the Fender decal white or silver, and it would look pretty cool.

Hard to resist this new Stratocaster lol. Ebony fingerboard is a very cool finishing touch. I love the hardtail but this new one got my vote. I could live with the headstock, actually like the contrast to show off the tuners and string tree. Thanks for posting. 8)

Vintage 70's for me. The Blackout is absolutely beautiful (love the looks of the Ebony fret board), but, though I own guitars with Rosewood and Sonokeling fret boards, I prefer and mostly play on Maple....and the Vintage 70's offers Maple.
Must admit, I have never played on an Ebony fret board...so I have no experience with the 'feel', but no doubt I love the look.

The head stock on the Blackout does not bother me either---painted headstocks do.

I'm with those above wondering about the headstock. That should have been the finishing touch, imo. Still, nice guitar.

Ok, so I waited to ask this until the 2nd guitar came out; are they getting LE serial numbers? So far, the explore option photos show regular US numbers.

On this blackout model I'll add this, I love the black metallic color. Whats new about this color from the original color?

The headstock would'a looked really cool in a silver burst pattern w/ the black metallic, just saying...and well ya could'a gone w/ black tuning machines & pearl knobs....

The black strat still got my vote, to many un 70's things on the hardtail.

The Blackout American Standard deserves a matching-painted neck/headstock, matching hardware and an HSS configuration - if not an original recessed Floyd Rose trem.

+1

Why not the entire neck? Personally I dig out more appealing features for this model such as matching black hardware & plastic parts, a hot humbucker in the bridge and an original recessed Floyd Rose tremolo with locking nut, D-Tuna and Schaller staggered lockers.

Calling it "blackout" seems just wrong, when it's only partial black. A blackout means you take extra care to get it all dark, because one piece standing out as bright is not helpful.

Black headstock, black nut, black screws, black strap locks, 1-ply black pickguard, darker fret markers - these are all things Fenders already make. But not on this guitar, which is supposed to be "blackout"?
(I'm sure they could do a black jack, bridge, tuners and whammy bar too - 3rd parties do, but the above are things they already do.)

Call it "black on black", "ebony black" or any of a number of different things. But not "blackout", because a few of us are old enough or have military experience enough to remember blackouts. This just tells us that Fender now embraces doing things half-arsed.

I also agree on the black head stock. Give this one a hard tail bridge, then I'd think you'd really be talking.
