Thanks for posting Alex. That store is pretty cool. I haven't been in awhile but it looks the same. Money rules though, they had a vintage Gibson Firebird VII that I would go in to play but at 18k I wasn't taking it home lol. If you're ever in the neighborhood check the place out. They have a great repair shop downstairs too.

Gave me a good laugh. That's sort of what I envision some of the fools do when I see "custom relic'd" guitars for sale.

Hey Alex, thanks for the post. Some really great stuff there, they're makin some really neat looking old guitars. One process they didn't mention was one that I used to relic my old Martin hollow body. Fill a bathtub full of saltwater and then put something heavy like an old log chain inside the guitar then place it in the tub for two or three days. When fully soaked dump the water (and the chain) out of the guitar and lay it on a radiator to dry completely for about two weeks. This gives the wood an aged look and the salt leaves a crusty relic look that is worth a fortune when it's time to sell or trade the guitar. Hope this helps you guys that are really into the relic thing.

Thanks Rollie. I've been to Chicago twice - not nearly often enough, I know :( Great, great city. When I'm next there, I'll check out the store for sure, though with the Canadian dollar currently around 79 cents US, that $18K Firebird would be close to $23K CDN. Ouch!

Cheers,
Alex

Attaboy S Bender.
Way to plant a song in our heads.
I got Mr. Marley stuck in endless loop.

Steer it up.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks! Great relic tip
I had a Gretsch acoustic many years ago - my first decent acoustic guitar. One day a friend picked it up by the strap and as it got to about waist height, the strap came off the bottom of the guitar. I watched as the guitar fell onto the floor, face down. When I picked it up, a piece of the spruce top fell off. Instant Willie Nelson relic
Oddly enough, my friend and I can laugh about it now.
Cheers!

I gotta say that I never cared for "relics"...just never got the whole point of paying extra for something beat up at the factory (or some twip's basement), so yea...that vid really makes me smile, LOL!!! If I -really- wanted a guitar that looked like that, I'd just drag it from the bumper of my mini van (the towing hitch makes a great place to tie the rope too)....pretty much sums up my attitude about the whole thing.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, the video and dragging the guitar behind a car sorta lends new meaning to the term "Road Worn".

How about playing the guitar for a decade or two?

Artificially "aging" a guitar is like having a plastic surgeon make you look older.

What a great video thanks for sharing. Loved the Coffee spill part “oh those tones are goinna be hot”
