I know this has been discussed here before, but I couldn't find the thread ....

I need to replace the power adapter for my pedal board. I use all BOSS effects with the exception of an Ibanez Tube Screamer (TS9).

Here's what I had:

My concerns about the above-pictured wire were confirmed when someone managed to knock my whole rig down at my last gig. The only thing damaged was this power adapter. This time, I want something a little more 'robust' that can take a good accidental 'yank' because accidents do happen.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance. :)

Get a pedal board with a built in power supply?

i have a Carl Martin Pro Power and think very highly of it. Has never missed a beat for me. But there are a ton of them out there to choose from.

well here's the thing...this was a vocalist from the headlining act. An old act, but if I mentioned one song name, most people here on the forum would know it. If I had kicked his (very old) $@!&, it might have made the news.

Unfortunately, short of a pedal board with it's own power supply (as someone else mentioned) or just getting a rack mount effects unit, so you can do away with the pedals, unfortunately wall-warts just aren't generally that robust. Even power supplies for things like laptop computers break pretty easily (had to replace one for my Dell because I dropped the damn thing).

I don't know if this helps any, but what I do is simply pick up the silly things cheap wherever I can...flea market, garage sales, Goodwill, etc...often times you can find them for a $1 or less. I have a whole box of the silly things now, so I always have a spare and I always keep 2 or 3 extras in the gig bag in case I ever need one on stage.

Now that said...except for my Roland MIDI and my Arion delay, to be totally honest, I usually just stick with 9 volt batteries most of the time. When I go grocery shopping, I'll usually snag a pack or two at Dollar Tree (where everything's a buck!) and toss them in the gig bag when I get home. Yea, sometimes I forgot to unplug a pedal or something and burn up a battery or two here and there...forgot to unplug my Ovation at last week's band practice (active preamp) and ended up with a dead soldier...but for the trouble of dealing with adapters and MORE wires, etc., etc...call me lazy, but the 9 volts work just fine for me. Even the cheapy Sunbeam 9 volts don't really need to be changed THAT often. I've been promising myself for years to get some rechargeable, but it's never really been that pressing of an issue for me.

Just my $.02....

Beware that many pedals won't work correctly - or at all - with rechargeables.
The most common consumer grade NiMH "9V" batteries that you can find at ridiculously highly prices at CVS or Best Buy have a nominal voltage of 8.4V, and rapidly dropping during use or storage. They also cannot deliver as much amperage as some pedals may need.
Li-Ion batteries are even worse, with a nominal voltage of 7.6V, but they can deliver more amperage.

Maha/Powerex sells a 9.6V NiMH battery which is better suited, but it costs more, and you may have to discharge it a bit before use if a certain pedal is very picky about not getting too much voltage.

Many pedal manufacturers will say that they do not support rechargeables.

Yep. Probably the general price level leads to not making those things bulletproof.

It's either that 'board with built-in', or just a 'regular' power supply if you want to be safe from stumbler/yankers - plenty of good ones out there.
On both you can choose to use a military grade extension lead to bring the AC in the board

One option might be to simply use the cheap fragile wall wort style adapter and mount it securely underneath your pedalboard the where it will be relatively out of harm's way. Use a daisy chain cable to power the pedals. I like the Ibanez cable. It's more durable than some others I've tried.
