I have no idea how I came across this video, but there are more starting to pop up on YouTube.

I have a friend of mine that's really into this kind of music, and believe it or not, this kind of instrument is considered cool as freak in that Genre.

Oh Lawd. What's the world comin' to.

@ 3:14---- Dude has a Lego for a saddle. Where does that rank on the tone scale?

Many of the great blues artists of yore started out on a diddley bow.
But they didn't play death metal with an EMG pickup, that's for sure.

It's good to see the kids looking further back than the 90's for inspiration. I always thought that folk music from this era had the essence of hard rock in it. The unpretentious qualities of a diddly-bow suit this genre perfectly.

Yea, we were both getting a kick out of the videos. It does actually work well with the genre. It also seems like they want them to be made of rustic parts. A 2x4, a nail, the Lego for a saddle is fantastic, Sharpy fret lines and side markers, crude wiring. I actually kinda like it.

That was great. I'd be curious to hear just the diddley bow part by itself.
I'd add a bit of plywood (4"x8"?) in back of where his right hand goes, just to keep it from rolling over.

Does it come in a baritone version?

Yea, I'm not into the singing either. I tolerate it when my friend is over. It's all he listens to. I don't own any Djent music myself.

But I'd like to hear an instrumental like this. The stick works as a rhythm track.

They're not calling it a Diddly Bow in this Genre btw. They're calling it a Djent Stick. Cool to see the kids getting creative in their genre with some DIY action. Gotta hand it to him. The kid built his own project.

Heck, when I was his age, about all I could build was a Skurf Board. It was literally a board shaped like a big guitar pick for skimming on the river.

If this gives more kids (and adults) the opportunity to play music, and more music for us to critique, I'm all for it.

Great vid by the way. Thanks for that.

I think you might hear little. If the video is to be trusted, it looks like the string is a piece of thin rope, not an actual paramagnetic string, which would imply it's a prop.

Your rope theory was interesting, arth1 . . . so I thought it might require further inspection.

Sorry to dissapoint you, .When the video is played full frame you can see in the beginning frames (especially if you freeze frame) a great close up that the string is indeed wound wire. Even though there is an edited dissolve, which may suggest a different string setup on the full shot, later closeups of the fret hand and strumming hand definitely show a wire string.

In one of the other djentstick vids (or possibly in the comments for one) they mention using a bass G string.
