Inspire me? No. But I appreciated where it was coming from. I was more into "new wave", which perhaps meant band knew how to play instruments (haha). I'm a geezer now, 65. Late 70's seemed big deal then was velvet pants big hair pretentious arena rock. Barf. Punk harkened back to garage or basement bands I was in mid 60's. Couple guitars, Farfisa organ, drums, singer maybe. Raw nasty stuff, but fun.
Given over produced, auto tuned, slick stuff dominating today, perhaps something like Punk is in order to clear away the excess and get back to heart of what rock and roll can and (dare I say) should be.

I definitely agree with you there on that one.

I second that!! Luckily we have quite a few GREAT throw-back bands nowadays to keep it fresh and alive. Even they aren't considered punk, the Black Keys, Interpol, Editors, Cage the Elephant, Death From Above 1979, Royal Blood, et al are keeping things fresh.. at least for me

I think the cool thing, being a bassist that is, about Death From Above 1979 and Royal Blood is the fact they are just a bassist and a drummer, yet they make that work for them. Who says you can't do it without a traditional full band? Sometimes, you just can't find the right people to play with. Trust me on that one.

I'm not familiar with the Editors or Cage the Elephant, other than in name only, so I should check them out. Even though I'm kind of an old bastard :P , I do try and make attempts to to listen to new bands now and then. There's been quite a few I've liked. The funny thing is they often had the same influences, anyway.

If you want inspiration, give yourself a break from the grind and listen to some J S Bach Keyboard Concertos!!! I know that Hendrix and Einstein were both huge J S Bach fans, so you'll be in good company!

I want to see a gallery of Strats or even Strat-based-copies of people who grew up in punk music. I would love to see the stickers, and all the nasty wear and tear these instruments have seen in the glory days of punk.

Anybody care to link me to that gallery? or start one?

My exposure was the 2nd wave in 1984ish. More so the hard-core punk movement. Like Black Flag , The Offenders and DRI. I liked the British stuff, but my liking was American Hardcore music. The music inspires my to do art work (I would say!)

Ditto. I could never understand the appeal for theThe Ramones or their music. Back in my day the response would have been..."Thank you!", "Next!!" I guess there's something about dumbing down in 'study hall' and 'detention' in high school which lends itself to success in the rock star world.

Well, I suppose people have different tastes in things, which isn't a bad thing. There's a lot of things I never understood the appeal of, which a lot of people seem to like. Different strokes and all of that.

Speaking of punk, the funny thing I've noticed it not too many people have even mentioned bands from the UK, other than the obvious selections of the Sex Pistol or the Clash. There was so much more of that going on there. Then again, the music scene has always been a lot different over there than here.

I dig Gary Numan, Devo, The Ramones, and The Knack. I was a teen back in the 80's, and these guys all inspire me even today.
