That Brass Mug wouldn't be in Tampa, FL by chance?

Yeah, Paul, I'm with Crash Pad up in Gainesville. We've been around forever, haha. (Forever meaning founded 1996). The Brass Mug pic was taken c. 2000, if I remember correctly.

But the last couple shots in the post were more recent, in the last couple years.

The Brass Mug was part of my musical stomping grounds throughout the 90's, at least when I was 21 years old. I'm originally from St. Petersburg (lived in New Port Richey and Brandon for a little bit,) before I moved to Newport, RI 12 years ago. There was a sound man there that made us pretty good tapes of our gigs when we played there. I was actually in several different groups that played there that didn't amount to anything, but still was fun. Of course, there was the jam night that I think was on Wednesdays, but I could be wrong. That sign in your pic wasn't there, though. I suppose they probably remodeled a bit.

Sfaik it's still there! (Although it has changed locations from when I played there, apparently.) I haven't been there since we played it, I rarely get down to Tampa. Would love to play there again. We had a good time playing there.

Yeah, it was. The last time I was there was probably 1995 at the latest, so I don't know what happened to there after that. I remember also the bathroom was horrendous, so if you had to take a dump, you'd be out of luck there and hopefully make it to some convenience store somewhere near by. :P

Yeah, it would be a bad idea to eat raisin bran for breakfast if you're going to have a show there that night. :P Unless of course, you're G.G. Allin. But we won't go there. That's some inspirational punk there, keeping with the theme of the thread. :P

I've never really spent much time in Gainesville that I recall. Maybe as a kid, when my parents use to go on trips all over the place. Speaking of places in Florida, one that I went to when I was 19 was Old Town, which was kind of creepy in a Twilight Zone, "you sure got a purty mouth," dueling banjos kind of way. I don't know what it's like these days, but it probably wouldn't be a good idea to have a purple mohawk or something like that back then. Then of course there's Apopka and Orlando, where if there is a gateway to Hell, it's that area. Nothing good has ever came from there, at least for my sake.

I have listen and played punk music since i was a kid and it was the greatest influence on me of any genre.

To me the greatest period of punk music was the GEN X era (born 63-73).

The most influential time and greatest for punk music to me,was between 86 -and 94 and included the Seattle era which was punk not "grunge" Bands like Butt hole surfers,Lubricated Goat,Nirvana,Sonic Youth,Mud honey, these are very popular ones but i could go on all day.

I feel this current era we are in feels like the early 80's to me.Everyone being a "gear geek",more interested in music gear than songs and music itself. The fakeness of this period also feels like the early to mid 80's too.Everyone has strong opinions and i find it weird that people seem to through all music genres in one bag, which is so weird.

I personally have not seen or heard a real punk since the mid 90's with angst and rebellion.

I loved the MC-5, Fugs and I admit that I later did like The Clash and the Contortions. To me, it was exactly like the avant jazzers' screaming saxs'. The Belle of Avenue A got me into acoustic music.
It was different then though. In high school, We listened to Albert Ayler and John Coltrane as much as we did the rock bands. Ayler was so punk and then he died in '70. Nobody cared about horns after that, except Beefheart. And Zappa.
Beefheart had it nailed. Everyone owed something to him. Trout Mask Replica!
and Blue Cheer, Vincebus Eruptum.
I wish young people would come up with something new already.

I was a teenager in the mid-70's, listening, like my elders and peers, to Classic Rock - Boston, Zeppelin, BTO, all that stuff. And I was happy enough until I heard a late night simulcast of Elvis Costello playing at Toronto's El Mocambo. And it was like I was struck by lightning. It was something new, and fast and exciting and it spoke to all that teenage anger and angst that I was carrying around. And I felt like it was written for me and not the old people listening to the same old classic folk-rock.
Within a week, I was listening to Devo, the Sex Pistols and the Clash and while my tastes have grown over the decades, I never forgot that rush of finding my own music.

It inspires me to say "eff it" and let 'er rip. :P Make some noise with a one finger salute. You could even play some nasty, gut bucket blues and have that attitude. That's really what it is, the attitude.
