Any idea what it might be worth now?

I'm not exactly sure. I've always said that a guitar is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

If I had to take a wild stab, I'd say probably $800-900

As I did a little more research, it turns out this is a more rare breed of Electra/ Westone. It's a transitional guitar as Electra was apparently selling out to Westone. While you might see Westone Phoenix guitars, they're usually painted with black headstocks. This one is the Matsumoku signature style dyed sides with maple/walnut center block, which would be more the style of an Electra.

If you look on this link:
http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/x149.php
You'll see the Electra X149, which this guitar is. But even in the pics it says Electra Phoenix. There's no telling how many X149s were produced as Electra Westone. There's just not a whole lot of information on these guitars out there. All the parts are still original though.

I don't have a desire to sell this guitar anytime soon. The story is just too good. I did read the real "Brick" story. It is a true story. And it just makes this one all the more special to me. If I ever got rid of it, I'd probably give it back to him. Let the story live on between the rightful participants.

for sure, you don't ever sell something like that. Maybe you'll share the story with your grand kids some day, and pass it down to one of them.

Exactly. There are a few good lessons to be had from this story.

Thanks for the story.
I like Matsumoku guitars (the Univox guitars) from way back.
Later, my fave Japanese makers became Terada and Fuji-Gen, but I would hang onto that Westone.

Wow! Fantastic story and fantastic guitar. Both of you need to be commended for your consideration for each other. I'm glad it worked out in the end. What is also amazing is the condition that your guitar is in. It's like the guitar gods were watching out for it. :D

I wanted to update this for those who might be interested in the real story of the brick. Here's a link to it.
