While poking around the interweb I came across this wiring mod. I wish I knew about this before I flipped my Mini Fuzz Face pedal. One Tone knob can be wired as a master tone control for treble cut and the other tone control can be wired for bass cut. Of all the wiring mods, I think I’d find this the most practical. My bridge pickup is a bit on the dark side so I have a no load pot so its out by default but there if I want. It helps but this would be very easy and more flexible. One of the things that was a bit frustrating with the Fuzz Face I had was the lack of tone knob so getting a happy balance between a clean sound and Fuzz with the darker bridge pickup was a bit of a struggle. I think this would have made a huge difference.

Anyone have this or have tried it? Its tempting.

I have.

My lasting impressions (in no particular order) are:

If it came in one of my guitars, I wouldn't go out of my way to modify it out the circuit.

It definitely is functional but I still like the 'regular way' better. This is probably because I'm an old geezer.

It reminds me of a treble bleed circuit without all the erratic dips, climbs and bald spots in the volume pot's taper.

Of course, it thins out the overall 'meat' of the pickup(s) somewhat.

Good luck to anyone in finding a 1K reverse pot with a split shaft.

It's an abridged Varitone.

This is definitely one of those situations where anyone who is interested in this circuit would have to try it for themselves.

Although this circuit has been known around the guitar community for quite a while, it isn't very popular to the masses outside of the G&L "umbrella".

As always, all the above is merely IMO where YMMV.

Thanks Martian. In doing more research I came across one cat that said the same and he Cannibalized the split shaft from another pot. Seems like a lot of trouble. Then came across a means of doing it with a modded tbx control. I have one of those lying around. Just requires a cap instead of resistor on the 1m pot. Figures RadioShack is now history but this might be a relatively easy thing to try if I can source the correct cap

You're quite welcome.

On a tangent, what you've said also illustrates the fact that there are multiple ways to achieve the same end.

Good luck and if you do decide to try it, let us know your impressions.
