Hi PaulF, The comments on here are not at all about Fender's customer service, but more about certain long time Fender employees who are knowledgeable and helpful, and who are being let go. They are disappearing and what you are getting now are under-trained younger guys (no offense to younger guys BTW) who deal with customers.

Paul's join date indicates that he's not been the beneficiary of the past 7 raucous years here. 8)

Actually, I've been here in one incarnation or another since 2009. The last was the most extensive as CPL from 2012 up until almost the end of last year. Around that time is when I had that issue. I deleted my account, but I missed posting here and came back. Before that, I had some account I barely even posted on and I think I deleted that one, too. I didn't really get involved here until I got my Rumble 350 Combo in 2012. I guess I didn't really have anything Fender related to talk about before that except I made a post about a Strat I had for awhile that had stickers on it and I was looking for a solution to remove the gunk. A few people answered it, but I don't even think they are even here anymore.

Stretching people that much isn't a good way to make money (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a bleeding heart commie).

I'm confused. Xhefri was expressing concerns about Rob. Are we on the same page?

No, Rob missing was page 1. Seems he's no longer at Fender, if Facebook is to be believed. That he didn't say goodbye indicates to me that it wasn't planned retirement, but I could be wrong. Or Facebook could be wrong.

Brad missing was page 2. He hasn't been seen here in a while, and someone else has posted with web-related support. The verdict is still open on whether he has joined the ranks of ex-fender employees, I think.

Mike Eldred was page 0 - long gone from Fender now, but still going strong. Good for him.

.......I probably should let Arjay have the last word  but thought I would just swing by and tell ya, I appreciate the kind words.
I'm serial number database-less and product database-less but I still like hanging about and seeing what you knuckleheads with actual knowledge are up to. ;O).
(Anyway.......who's gonna dole out the "kum-by-ya's" if I'm not around? )

All the best,
rob

Paul, you just answered a couple of questions I've thought about for some time. When I look up a member that I've friend'd in the past (yep, I friend'd CPL) their page comes up with a blank space after "last post" and I wondered then, are they gone? I guess they are. Most missing members were pretty cool and it would be rad if they would come back to the Forum (welcome back Paul), hope springs eternal.
Rob, good to see your post Bro. Kumbayas are important, glad you're here !

If Brad and Rob are both gone who's running the show around here?

I have been digging around a little and am left scratching my head. What I am going to share is nothing new in corporate America. Seems some older employees are gone, obviously. I went to Fender's Website under the section Careers at Fender and see they are hiring a lot of people for a lot of positions. At the same time they are letting other people go. Look here and see the openings they currently have: http://www2.fender.com/features/careers/ Also make sure to go to the bottom of that page and read all the nice things about Fender, how they treat their workers, their ethics, their vision, etc. I could see Steve jobs writing that, and then if you questioned or crossed him, even a little, you saw the other side of Jobs!

So the question is, why are some of the long time Fender employees disappearing? There could be a lot of reasons. I saw where Fender recently hired a lady named Tammy Van Donk as the Vice President Customer Service at Fender. Ummm. That seems odd. Remove some already doing this job and hiring new person? Then I Googled her name and found this on a website from her past. So I guess she has a bit of a history, you could say. The headlines read: Williams-Sonoma Inc./Tammy Van Donk Terminating long time dedicated employees if they don't break labor laws benefiting the company Camp Hill Pennsylvania. I do not know if two and two equal four, but we could be seeing a historic era at Fender much akin to the CBS days—but worse. I just know it is a big corporation that is just part of a bigger investment firm called TPG Growth. Fender is just a little cog in the wheel. ( http://www.tpggrowth.com/portfolio.php ). Just remember the next time you eat a Whopper at Burger King, you are shoring up the Fender Guitar company!

I really detest what has been happening in corporate America the last 15 years or more. Just one example: My sister-in-law worked in radiology department in a big hospital in Seattle most of her life. She was 2-3 years away from retirement. A independent company bought out that department and they simply watched the older employees very carefully. When there was even the smallest slip, they were written up and then FIRED. She even had to fight to get unemployment insurance. Typical kind of things that are happening in many places. I could tell you a lot of stories but I cite that one as an example. And always the victims are just a few years away from retirement.

So is there going to be a passion for the product? A love for the art? or is it now all just numbers and figures. If anyone remembers the CBS era, they cheapen their guitars and tried to move the company into a mass produced, low budget, consumer product. They did it well, and the quality showed. That was why Dan Smith tried so hard to bring back the faltering quality standards in the early 1980s with what many of us call The Smith Era Strats. Best thing that happened was CBS Fender was bought out in 1984 by an investment group led by William (Bill) Schultz. This investment group formally became the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation or FMIC. Those days are long gone and now we have a déjà vu of CBS in TPG. Anyhow, as one interested in history and fender, this is my point of view and only my point of view. Sad times for Fender. They are simply riding on their legacy to make a buck and that is it......

Bono and The Edge, I presume.

Good to see that Rob is around in mufti. They can take the Fender paycheck from a man, but they can't take away his magic Kum-ba-Yah. Who got the marshmallows?
