I'm glad you people have had pleasant experiences with Fender, especially their customer service. The idiot that we had to deal with when I had that issue with the Squier Bass VI last year, or whenever, was a contributing factor in jumping ship to Schecter when I needed a new bass. I'm over it now, even though I seriously doubt I'll ever purchase another Squier, and be extremely cautious of a Fender bass or guitar, but that was friggin' aggravating. I didn't get that from Schecter customer service, or Orange amps when I contacted them with a question. They were actually professional and helpful.

Hi PaulF, The comments on here are not at all about Fender's customer service, but more about certain long time Fender employees who are knowledgeable and helpful, and who are being let go. They are disappearing and what you are getting now are under-trained younger guys (no offense to younger guys BTW) who deal with customers.

To validate what you just said, here is what happened just last week. I am giving guitar lessons to a young guy (22 years old) over the last month. He is a grade school buddy of my son’s. Anyhow he just bough a brand new Fender American Deluxe Tele from Musician's Friend. He brought up to my place right after he got it and plugged it into one of my amps. The neck pickup was dead. Also, the neck it self had “fret sprouting” which he indicated really bothered him as he slid his hand up and down the neck. Musicians Friend told him to send it back and they would refund his money. They did not have a replacement guitar like his. He really wanted this one model in the color he had. Fender told him to take it to the Guitar Center in a near by city and have them fix it as they are a Fender service center. One problem, it is a 1.5 hour drive, one way, from where he lives. I would not let the guy who does repairs there change the strings on my guitar. He asked if he could just ship it back to fender and have them fix it. he only had the guitar 3 days. They said NO. This young man just ended up buying a new set of Fender pickups and is going to have me install them. Crazy….. so ya. That is the kind of service you get.

Yeah, but... I may be disclosing too much about myself here, but he's a young'un!

And I truly hope he left on his own volition, because they really were making him do three full-time jobs - web master, designer and sysadmin. It really needs three people in a small-to-medium sized business, and Fender is big. Stretching people that much isn't a good way to make money (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a bleeding heart commie).

Yeah, the thing is that guitar, or the Squier I had shouldn't have passed quality control to begin with. I can say on my situation, the company I bought it from was excellent in dealing with the situation and resolved it. I had no issue in returning it and getting a refund. So at least it wasn't all bad in the end. If I was your student, I wouldn't have spent more money on let's be honest, a crappy guitar that should have left the factory to begin with (especially being a top of the line model, or close to it) no matter what color it was. I would have just returned it and either looked elsewhere or another brand altogether.

Then again, he's young (I'm actually 21 years older than him and old enough to be his dad, albeit a young father) and my tolerance for BS ending a few years ago. In fact, that was one of the interesting things about when I turned 40. It was like some light switch turned on and you really realise a lot of things about life that you don't necessarily pay attention to in your 20's and especially your 30's. It's kind of liberating, actually. :P

I know what you about when you mean when the good ones are gone, though. I think the saddest thing you can say is when you remember a time back when, or "the good ol' days." Unfortunately, there often seems to be some truth to that phrase. That makes me feel like I'm 90 years old sometimes when usually mentally I can still relate to being in my 20's, yet somehow wiser. I managed to retain that youthful enthusiasm I had (especially for music) when I started playing at 16 years old. I never lost that, which is amazing considering some of this crap I've had to deal with after that time period. Then again, who hasn't?

The "young" man came up for a guitar lesson last night. I asked what was up with his Tele. He said he wife chewed him out and said the guitars has a warranty and he needs to used it. I looked at him and said, she is right! So he is going to drive some 1.5 hours to drop the guitar off as a small ma/pop store that is a "authorized Fender repair center" and leave it there for a week of so to have him fix it. If things work out I will either help him to sell the new pickup he bought or suggest he return them.

I wonder if that will void the warranty with the new pick installed? I know with the amps, you're not suppose to mess with anything in it, like swapping out speakers. I have a Rumble 350 combo that I still have another couple of years left on for that (I bought it I believe in January 2012.) It's no longer my main rig, but I still have it and I have thought about potentially tinkering with it, even though it doesn't need anything. Trying different speakers or maybe covering in red shag carpet. :P I'd need a P-Bass with flats and a horn section to go with that, though.

The way things are going I'd be reluctant to offer any opinion positive in the way of performance about any current employee of tenure.

I'm confused. Xhefri was expressing concerns about Rob. Are we on the same page?

Paul's join date indicates that he's not been the beneficiary of the past 7 raucous years here. 8)

Here's a word to the 'suits' responsible for the replacement therapy being administered to your 'sick' corporation. If your new hires are as competent in the knowledge of your product as some of the 'experienced' sales staff I have encountered at Guitar Center, [which seems to be your major outlet,] you're in deep doo-doo. There isn't a charter member of this Forum, or anyone you've given the door to, who couldn't bury them in 30 seconds about what they are supposed to know. Can't tell you how many times I've helped a prospective customer close on the purchase of a Fender product when the 'help' [more often an oxymoron at best] didn't know the difference between a Classic Player and a Clapton. A word to the wise should be sufficient.
